We’ve been unhappy with our outdoor lighting for years. Everything we actually like costs over €50 per fixture… and on top of that, most of them are basically disposable. No replaceable bulbs, just built-in LED modules, sometimes even sealed in plastic. So when it dies, you throw it away and spend another €50+, assuming you can even find the same model again. Otherwise, you’re stuck cutting, soldering, and gluing, hoping you can retrofit some random module from AliExpress or Amazon.
Two days ago I stumbled upon a model on Makerworld and decided to turn it into an outdoor wall lamp using GU10 sockets.
I grabbed some GU10 holders, printed a set in black PETG, assembled everything, and mounted it on the wall. Most parts were printed with a 0.8 nozzle and 0.4 layer height since they’re not visible so i prefere them to be strong and ugly. The visible parts were printed with a 0.4 nozzle and 0.2 layers on a Cool Plate SuperTack for smooth texture for everything that touches the plate.
Now we’ve got exactly the design we want, fully customizable and upgradeable. And since it uses GU10 bulbs, we can easily change brightness and color temperature whenever we want. I can even put some smart bulbs and manipulate them via zigbee and local instalation of home assistant. If a bulb dies, just replace it. No waste, no hassle.
There is one downside though… now we can see some uneven spots on the facade 🤣
Tomorrow I’ll print a top cover in either white or transparent PETG to keep rain out. The white (with thin layers) should give a nice diffused, milky light, while the transparent one will just act as weather protection.
Once i'm satisfied, ill be replacing all my outer lighting.

I'm in Bitcoin since end of 2013 and i did not see it like that. Only parameter i saw them fight over was decentralization. Will it stay decentralized or will it become centralized and governed by basically few people / organizations over long time.
Medium of exchange, store of value, none of those were important. Small blockers winning did not change anything in that regard. Big blockers win would not change nothing in that regard. Instead of LN we would have on chain transactions and stuff like that, but as far as medium of exchange or store of value go, nothing did change or would change except decentralization.
At lease that's my perception of it now when enough time passed by.
But you are right that it's discovering what Bitcoin actually is. That's how things are defined in decentralized systems. Multiple parties offer their interpretation and ideas which than get in fight each other and one with most support wins defining what that system is at that point of time. Maybe more accurate would be to call it "way how Bitcoin develops over time" because whatever it is now, it's not same as when block size war was happening and it wont stay this way in the future (and i don't say that with any negative conotation....if you do not develop and adopt, you die, that's how nature works form everyone......except tardigrades i guess....
Anyway, when i see how big block forks ended, when i see other big and fast block networks and problems that happen on them and when i see how many confirmations are required on them (some have fast big blocks, but receiver requires 200 confirmations) i am glad that we chose what we chose. Big blocks would not be free and i was not ready to pay the price.
It's not like i will die on that hill, it's not like i won't never ever accept blocks being expanded, but i will be on careful side if we ever get to that. I'd never go even close to what big and fast block networks have. We have practical knowledge now about what happens in those networks so we do not have to guess what would happen if we did it.

After years of gas powered backup generator, i switched my whole house to a solar + battery. Long term solution that not only keeps house powered in case of power outage but allows me to produce my own energy long term and reduce electricity bills when public network works.

Almost burned my weekend house down like that when i was young. Wooden house, full oak wood, with setup similar to this. Chimney was not going straight up but bit up and than into the wall (and that short length was almost our downfall) and than up on another side. It was in the middle of the winter, snow falling outside, and we came there after night out and no one was in for more than a month so inside was very cold too. We fired it up, filled it up with wood and fell asleep.
Close to morning my friend woke me up coughing (it was lucky for us that he was breathing trough his mouth and not nose so smoke irritated his throat).
Long story short, chimney got so hot that it heated up wooden wall around it so hard that wood turned into....don't know....like red hot coal. Luck was that we had plaster on the walls which prevented oxygen coming inside the wall so no open fire started. That wall was like red hot coal which released ton of smoke. We ran out, called firefighters who lucky for us came fast, prepared whole thing, broke of plaster from one side of the wall and sprayed it with foam never letting open fire ignite so house was saved and basically nothing major happened. Whole house was full of smoke, some things were destroyed and wall had to be rebuilt.
Looks as cool as hell but it can be dangerous if not properly build like in our case.

I live in country in which we pick our prime minister and some other officials via representative democracy, and president and some other officials via direct democracy, so please, drop the act. I see how changes are being done when citizens want change and i see how no change is made when they don't want it. I live it for decades now.
Not agreeing with an average voter does not mean that democracy is not working, it just means you are not part of majority.
For example, i do not agree with average citizen of my country. We voted in representatives for prime minister that i like 2 times in 20 years, but percentages are being thinner and thinner, change is slowly coming even in the rural parts of the country.
On the other hand, locally change came 6 years ago, we voted in new face that is not part of two largest parties, and our town is flourishing so much he won last time with huge percentage win.
So what it means? It means, democracy is working but i simply do not agree with majority of citizens of my country, but i do agree with majority of folks in my town.
It's so condescending thinking that i do not understand how it works. It's like only you are living it and rest of us are on Mars or something, only reading about democracy on internet or whatever.

They can and very easy. They elect representatives that will vote for some other candidate on next elections. Just like any other election for example for prime ministers in countries (or equivalent government leaders).
Democracy might not be perfect (FAR from it) but it's best we have for now. Once we create new, better system, i will be all for it.

I am not playing with words. Representative democracy is all over the world on different levels of government. It's in parts of government of US, it's in EU, it's in EU countries themselves.
EU citizens put names of representatives that chose her in ballots and that gives them (representatives) and her (chosen by those representatives) legitimacy.
Just google "representative democracy" and see list of institutions and governments that use it. It's not my opinion, or "play with words". Only one who is playing with words are JD Vance, Donald Trump, Elon Musk and rest of shitheads that want to spread this narrative that she has no legitimacy.
Facts:
- In every EU country, the head of government is chosen indirectly. Citizens vote in parliamentary elections for parties. The legislature (parliament) or the majority coalition selects and confirms the prime minister or equivalent leader.
- Heads of State (Presidents/Monarchs). Germany, Estonia, Italy, Hungary, Latvia and Malta are some of examples where the president is elected by parliament or a special assembly.
- US citizens vote for electors pledged to a candidate. Those electors form the Electroal Collage. Electroral collage formally elects the president. US president is voted in by representative democracy.
- Because of representative democracy in place, US citizens do not have 1 voter 1 vote system. Cirizen in one state has more voting power than citizen in another state.
- In US, candidate can win without winning popular vote. This has happened multiple times.
In that sense US is even more indirect than EU is..
So....please tell me how am i "playing with words"? Show me some facts, that will counter mine, not some random thought of what someone else think, those do not have bigger weight than facts.

All EU member states hold elections where citizens vote for their European Parliament representatives.
That is a legal requirement of EU membership.
So, yes you did vote for your representative. Maybe you voted for someone else, but that's not an issue. Whoever your representatives are, they were voted by your countryman and they have legitimacy, so does she as she was voted in by representatives of all EU countries.

Yes but that effect has short life span. Thanks to Elon, Nostr will have more users in the future because what is happening there right now is pretty good drive to come to nostr and i see no end to it. That requires so much more information.
1) IARC is organization that classified it (International Agency for Research on Cancer) which makes classification pretty serious
2) The IARC has classified combined hormonal contraceptive pills (those containing both estrogen and progestogen) in group 1
That is old news. 2005/2008
3) so, it's old news and it's only some pills. For example, progestogen-only pills are not in group 1, they are in group 2B
4) basically everything that is tested is classified in one of groups. Being group 2B doesn't mean much. For example, coffee (yes, hot drink a lot of us drink every day) was for long time in 2B. Aloe Vera extract is 2B etc.
One should not make simple conclusions to complex situation and call for radical moves.

Not only that, but scientists love to make each other proven wrong. You can pay some of them, but not all of them in all countries in the world. If claim is provable (basically if it's scientific and not just an idea) they will be all over it to prove it right or wrong.
More often than not, problem lies with interpreting scientific claim by non scientists, not claim itself and it comes in few flavors.
Non-experts simplifying claim, because they want to make it clickbaity or readable for an average.
Non-experts not understanding claim
Non-experts thinking that hypothesis is theory and theory is hypothesis and not understanding what those two words mean etc.
How many times did you hear: "It's just a theory" meaning "it's just someones idea, no real proof of it". How many people know that theory is a comprehensive explanation of some aspect of nature, built from many tested hypotheses, supported by large amounts of evidence, makes predictions and survives repeated attempts to falsify it and that it can be refined, but not casually overturned?
In many discussions with many people all over the world i never ran into non expert really knowing what "theory" is which is real shame and fail of many school systems (not only one in my country).

We live in society. Those that live in the middle of nowhere, without connection to society, that do not use anything from society, can't earn much really. Best they can hope to do is to be self sufficient and hope for best in extreme situations (drought, fire, flood etc.)
You don't see many millionaires (or equivalent of) that came out of the woods with a lot of wealth that they created while being disconnected from society. That's simply not how world works.
And when you use society, than you do own something to it. How much? It's hard thing to define. Best i can do is : "it depends on how much society you live in gives to you". So it's not one fixed amount or percentage. It depends on society you live in. If it offers a lot, you own them more than if it does not offers a lot. So same percentage (let's say 20% of what you make) can be way way way too much, or way way way too little.
For example, i am not glad we (my countryman) have to pay 38% of average paycheck to my country. I think it should be less. Not because i think that 38% is too big number, but because i think that my country does not offer enough to warrant those 38%. It's not far, but i think it's too much. On the other hand, there are certain countries where i would be glad to pay 50% or even bit more and there are certain countries i would not be happy to pay even 10% and there are some that would have to pay to me to live there.
So answer to question, "what is fair share" would be "depends".

Yeah...SSD's are made of same memory modules (or something like that....basically same factories) as RAM.....and when OpenAI boutght out manufacturing resources, they halted everything....things that have preexisting contracts are not rising as fast as things that do not have preexisting contracts. You know what? I don't really think it's grooming or anything like that. I think it's not understanding how whole thing works. Why are they seeing certain content and that what they see is not good representation of the world they live in.
Current X algo is pure fishing for reaction. It will throw at you most disturbing thing, no matter if you follow that content / creators or not just to get an reaction out of you. It doesn't care about anything else in this world.
I came there for tech, Tesla FSD, Bitcoin and similar forward looking stuff. I'm European so i expect to get mix content, bit of international, bit local.
What do i get? 1% Tesla FSD, 1% Bitcoin, 1% tech, 97% current US politics outrage. Muting and blocking helps a little bit, but as soon as something new happens, i get it force fed by algo and i have to block and mote again.
For example, when that police agent shot that woman in a car, i got screen after screen of videos, screenshots and comments about it. And i got both side, not only one side. It's not like it is pushing only one side, like it pushed before (for example when US elections laster, all i could see is Rep / MAGA posts). No....both side, one below other, but what i realized is that i got most ludicrous posts from both sides out there. Posts that are dragging your fingers to comment, to try to reason or tell how you interpret video that was posted. Absolutely zero posts that would say: "It's shame what happened, pray for her family, put video recording on those guys like on cops, investigate what happened and act accordingly." No....only rage and baits from both side.
Before that, it's screen after screen of Trump and Greenland, before that Maduro etc. And again, i repeat....i'm European who is following people that talk about tech. Not following single American, European or even local politician. Not even mayor of my town! But X algo doesn't care for what i want. It just wants to trigger me, to write anything to anyone. It doesn't care what i write ether. I could b swearing one side or another and it will show me that side even more just to get as much reaction as it can.
And i'm sure 99.9% of users do not understand that. They see certain topic, they react, algo starts pushing it to them, and they think that it's end of the world, that everyone and their dog is talking about that topic because they do not see anything else for pages upon pages of content. They have no idea that they are being played and that they are not seeing real picture, real representation of what average people around them think. All they see is extreme of one side arguing with extreme of another side (of whichever topic) and no middle ground which in reality is most of population. 70-80% of population (i plucked those numbers out of my ass, it's just for illustration of what i want to say) is not represented in the feed.

Twitter was far from good, really far from it, but you could at least tell it what you want, and it would give it to you. If you wanted politics, sure you would get it, but if you did not, than it would mix it up in your feed here and there just to check up on you and your needs (because they change). But it did not force feed you....waterboard you with it.

This creates double standards in my head.
First i don't like banning. Especially communication platforms.
Than i go to X (which i still use almost as much as nostr) and i see what shithole it became and realize that i would switch 100% to nostr if more people talked about topics i am interested in over here. And it's not that it only became shithole....shithole is downplaying it a lot, it's being nice to it. It's becoming borderline useless for any sort of decent communication and algo is force feeding people topics they have zero interest in.....if X servers burned tomorrow and they lost it all i wouldn't flinch or feel like we lost anything useful.
But than again....i don't like bans as solution to anything....
If i wasn't lazy, i'd insert that sweating guy with two red buttons below this text....but i am currently too lazy.

Clients allowing local personal "algo" would be nice. We have open source very small and efficient LLM's that users could use to filter and sort posts by topics that users prefer (all local on user hardware, nothing on line).
Clients could offer "outsourcing" of said model (for example i am running larger LLM's on my gaming PC most of the time) so i could set up exterlan point and client would use it for algo if it's accessible, and if it's not, it would use smaller local one (similar thing is done by Immich....you can tell it to use AI from any IP you want, hosted by you or someone else, and if not accessible it will revert to local cpu/gpu).
For more powerful stuff someone could offer "algo" service that would be paed vith zaps. Hosted efficient LLM that would filter content for others (by rules that users themselves set up). Those could be larger and more potent LLM models.
I'm ok with "algo" as long as user can control it and choose and pick everything from local on device to remote ones by users rules.

Point of view as an outsider on duopoly:
US used to be predictable. Dems or Reps, they had their own way of doing things and you could plan your life accordingly (whether we want it or not, US politics affect us outside US).
With Trump, it feels like 3rd party is created and it replaced Reps. You can't count or trust on anything anyone from this new establishment says or said at any time in the past. Things change from minute to minute. One day is white, another day is black. Most blatant lies are at random accepted as a truths and long standing truths are called lies.
It’s like someone you knew for a long time, someone you could argue with and still understand, suddenly became unrecognizable. The rules changed, consistency vanished, and even basic shared facts are no longer agreed on. From the outside, it feels like dealing with someone who suffered a personality-altering brain injury the same name, the same history, but none of the old predictability or shared reality.
I don't know how it happened or why it happened, is this real state of Republicans or US or is it just a fluke, is it good for US or bad in long run (i have my doubts which are not topic of this post) but it's wild to see from outside.

Confusing speech with censorship. Thinking criticism equals an “attack.” Not understanding that the First Amendment restricts the government, not private individuals or TV commentators, etc. Criticizing, talking about change etc. of 1st amendment is ironically protected by1st amendment.
And that's not all. For attack on 1st amendment to have an effect, 1st amendment would have to be changed. For 1st amendment to be changed, there should be overwhelming support of American people.
What do you think American people are like if you think that someone talking on TV can make them support changing 1st amendment? Do you see a problem there? No...do you see multiple big problems there?
If you think that talking does change minds of big majority, if all it takes is talk to loose foundation of your country, what does that tell you about whole thing? Do you see multiple problem there?
Thinking that Canada, England or Australia are somehow attacking US 1st amendment and are not real allies, while ignoring Russia and China, that's absolutely ridiculous and tells more about you than about system that you think is attacked or US citizens that you think would be willing to change it because of that attack.

Propaganda can be a tool, a technique, a process and yes, a weapon. It’s used by everyone. Governments, political movements, corporations, media, religions, advocacy groups, and individuals. The US uses it. Canada uses it. The UK and Australia use it. Businesses use it. Private citizens use it.
If using propaganda disqualifies someone as an ally, then the US has never was an ally to anyone and had an ally and no country has ever been a friend to another. As long as humans have tried to influence opinions, propaganda has existed. That’s just reality.
By that standard, even internal political campaigning would count as hostile action. Which is obviously absurd.
For example: Elon Musk openly encourages Europeans to vote for extremists and attacks moderate political solutions. He’s far from the only American doing this. So hearing accusations of “foreign propaganda” coming from the US is, frankly, ironic.
What’s really interesting in the current situation is this:
People are suddenly calling influence from the UK, Canada, and Australia “propaganda” countries that have admired the US for decades, adopted large parts of US culture, and literally fought, bled, and died alongside Americans when the US asked for help.
At the same time, many of those same people downplay or ignore propaganda from China and Russia countries whose explicit goal is to weaken the US and reshape it into something more like themselves.
If I were China or Russia, my primary objective would be simple: Use propaganda to divide Americans. Help elect the most incompetent and corrupt leadership possible. Convince people that longtime allies are enemies. Wrap it all in slogans about “making the country great again”.
You are being played but you have no idea by who.

If they do not change triggers behind payouts, they will only fuck up platform even harder. Problem is not how large payouts are, it's what is being rewarded. How you count views, how views are rewarded, how content can be filtered by those that pay for ads etc.
Current game theory rules over there are: "write as provocative post as possible, no matter what, no matter truth, no matter quality of information, just poke and probe for human response". Current rules are slowly destroying quality of communication on X. If they crank up payments and do not fix rules, it's gonna become even bigger shitshow (i don't know if that's even possible tbh)

I am still waiting for anyone to give me use case of CBDC that will enable them to do something they can not implement right this moment without CBDC.
I heared few things and not single one is CBDC related or depends on CBDC.
1) no more cash - Yeah...more than few countries in EU are already going cashless in not so distant future. CBDC or not, they can do it right now. That's not some future, that's now.
2) stopping you from paying - hey can and they already do it right now. Blocking you from sending money to certain countries, businesses or individuals. Again, not future, now
3) they will be able to track you / your payments - they can do so now. They improve on mechanisms to do that all the time.
4) programmable money - again, they do it now. If you send payment to x, they do y
Is there something that CBDC gives them (and by them i mean governments) that they can not implement without CBDC?
