James H

I am nerd or geek, depending on your perspective. I do IT things, I do WordPress things, I do accessibility things. But on social media, I do snark things.

I skim the local feed, but I have each account I suspect might not be 100% real open in a separate timeline. My userbase is also small enough that if you picked a random user from my instance I could probably tell you where they came from. The accounts I suspect might not be 100% real are also the ones I limit by default.

And that's why I'm interested in testing. :) Though I'm confident that if it finds 10 on my instance some will be false-positives.

I have 0 bots on my instance right now, and every user with an approved account is either someone I know, someone who is known by someone I know, or someone who didn't set off any red flags when I scraped them. The sketch ones that I'm not entirely comfortable with are limited and watched. Right now they've posted 0 things.

Please let me know when this becomes available for general use. My instance will happily deploy this.

HCaptcha is Mastodon's only CAPTCHA option, and that poses accessibility concerns. You may be inadvertently preventing users with some disabilities from signing up on your instance before they reach the pending approval stage.

It helps, though. Out of curiosity, what else are you using? I don't have that problem yet but it's a federated instance so I probably will.

Every country should move toward banning Twitter given its recent and intentional CSAM problem. Good on the UK for possibly being the first. As for your Mastodon instance, open registrations without approval should be discouraged anyway. That's the only antispam measure we've got.

That's the one downside to a decentralized network. Because yes, I agree with you. But all I can do is suspend her from my instance and well... she ain't been here yet.

I feel like you might be able to accomplish it with an NFS mount, but I need to know more about how that shared filesystem is handled. Is it hosted on a drive belonging to one of your servers? Is it in object storage?

So I'm probably asking this to the wrong people but... any blind/vi folks signed up for Rover as a sitter? I know several have used them as a client. I'm looking into them as a possible way to not be restricted to unemployment money.
