Please explain this to a person like me who last took a taxi years ago, last ordered take out during the pandemic (a bicyclist delivered it) and who is a big fan of public transport, bicycling, and renting vehicles.
To me it sounds great to make these services more expensive, it will benefit the alternatives. But I could be wrong.

And recently I found out that small business owners use the costs of such a monstertruck as a way to bring the profits of their one man company down so they are taxed less.
They need a car for their tools and materials anyway and now they get more pleasure and status out of it.
Their job by itself gives less of that? And they like to Dodge taxes just like their big hero entrepreneurs?

Yes, that is what I understood from this video from @npub1z7x…q5jf about Canadian rail.
And that passenger trains are running on the tracks owned by the cargo train company. Cargo gets priority. The train we see here is also a cargo train.
And that as a passenger you have to 'check in' asif you are boarding a train. Ridiculous.

The trams in Amsterdam were running fine after the freezing nights thanks to an employee initiative called 'Night Riders'.
During the night they would ride trams to keep the overhead lines ice free. They came up with this solution after a similar cold situation years earlier.
It worked and they were proud. With the compliments to them from Melanie the city elder on LinkedIn. And many inhabitants.

What certainly does not help is the inconsistency in policy caused by the Individual Vehicle Approval for the American cars that we want to keep out.
"Why are our cars not allowed in while they are already driving around for years on European roads?" the Americans might ask.
I have no answer to that. And I don't see those cars already in not taken off the road either.

Just studied both https://www.patreon.com/c/notjustbikes/ and https://nebula.tv/notjustbikes but I can't find an option to throw an extra donation in your direction for this. Earmarked 'monstertrucks' preferably.
Could you set up some crowdfunding of some kind? Or does that distract people from longterm subscriptions?
Upgrading my subscription on a monthly basis is a bit overblown in this context. Or should I just upgrade from Bicycle (€30/y) to Tram (€11,5/m) on Patreon for a month and then downgrade?

@npub1z7x…q5jf Interesting remark from another citizen while we were online drafting an amendment to an electoral program for the Dutch elections in October.
"Dodge RAM's, Ford F150 and similar yank tanks are useless because the empty weight is 2800kg and consequently you can only carry 700kg in load and passengers."
My favourite van to rent is the Van of the Year 2010. The Vito is now advertised with 1.189 kg load. Itself 2.000kg. The opposite would be better though.

by chance I started a petition today. To have the police deal with motorists that crash into a tram or bus instead of delaying hundreds of passengers while the bureaucracy of dealing with the accident is dealt with by the driver of the tram or bus. Or in the case of a disruption of the schedules thousands of passengers. Bike lanes as a conditional backbone for traffic were negotiated by the elders of Houten. Currently 450 professional visitors, like city planners, per year come to see it. This reminds me of my (only) visit to a 'big box' store near Amsterdam this year.
I rented a car to get mousetraps because they were sold out in all local shops. It would be 20 minutes by bike and it was half an hour before closing time.
The parking lot is on the ground floor, the box is build on top of it. Solid concrete structures, it will probably stay there for many decades.
I didn't stay long because the rented car is cheaper if you return it quickly.

Tree roots are pushing up bicycle lanes in Amsterdam (also elsewhere?).
Please think with me. Could it be a solution to lay an iron mat over the tree roots composed of a grid filled with short vertical bamboo stems, which are then periodically horizontally cut?
The stems are pierced with iron wire to prevent them from sinking down were there are no roots.
Bicyclists then always have a perfectly level surface to drive on. Just a short bump, but very gradual. The tree can grow and gets rain.

What argumentation will you choose? Try to find something unique for the situation with a sense of urgency. I demonstrated that the clutter of bicycles on the pavement made it difficult to pass while many pedestrians go to the supermarket through that spot. In combination with increased bicycle ownership.

I quickly got an e-mail from the civil servant dealing with this. Although I do not exclude the possibility that he did a web search on my name and then realised I was extremely well connected to everything about this topic. And probably one handshake away from him.

Yes, I successfully did it in my street. They check https://maps.amsterdam.nl/parkeerdruk/ and the argumentation.
In my case, a nearby GOW street had little space for bikes but many addresses. So people would park just round the corner in my street.
The 'fietsvlonder’ was first used in de Kinkerstraat and just became available to be used somewhere else.

Allowed as an exception because the car does not have space for the larger Dutch ones. The car model should have “kentekenplaat model 18.2 toegestaan” in the RDW database.

In Amsterdam I would feel entitled to just take over the road and bike in the middle of it. Don't expect much anger from the motorists because they can see there is no alternative. Would not be fined I am sure, for the same reason. Luckily the bike lanes are cleaned and I never felt the need for such a stunt. Probably the city understands what a mess it would be if bicyclists are all deprived of their bike lane and start using the main road.

Yikes, more bicycling streets? Always a bad idea to have cars share infrastructure with bikes. Even if the cars are pulled by donkeys or pushed manually. Still not good. The city writes that the volume of bicyclists during rush hour is just too big. Better have the cars share space with the tram.

I expect the latter. Taxi drivers can pretend to drive around with customers (I see a lot of them driving around empty) and at the end of the day deposit cash at the bank pretending the cash is from clients. While in fact it is drugs money coming from a gigantic pile of garbage bags with ‘useless' cash.
Also you can see tourists getting in a taxi for just a few hundred meters. They bought a little envelope or some pills while bureaucratically they paid for a ride!

After receiving more ad hominem insults from Amsterdam’s most vocal taxidriver (because I said something in the newspaper) I was wondering, have we already seen a video from @npub1z7x…q5jf about taxis? In what way do they contribute to a city? I think of Amsterdam, which is a magnet for taxis, one for every 351 inhabitants! https://www.ilent.nl/onderwerpen/taxiontwikkelingen-en-trends/marktbeeld In a city where you can cross the old centre by foot in 30 minutes. Amsterdam can't limit them without better national legislation.

better yet, “the fire department does not allow more cars on this important street” is a message I would like to see on busy roads. With some traffic filter to decrease the capacity of the road, pushing traffic jams back to neighbourhoods. So people can decide: to leave this mess I can just take a bike to that important road and ride together with others. Like... a bus?
