Bostrom's central fear in that book too is that "smarter = extractive conqueror", which _also_ tells you a lot about his childhood (& that of the broligarchs)
it's basically "but what if something colonizes _me_"
IMO the hallmark of maturing intelligence is cooperation and the extension of self-interest to the community

I read Bostrom's book SUPERINTELLIGENCE back when I worked at Google —
Blaise A— insisted that it go on the "AI" SF book club reading list
(as an aside: I started the book club; we were mostly reading, uh, cautionary stories)
SUPERINTELLIGENCE is garbage, & I said so: throw around big numbers until your moral calculus has a floating-point overflow & you can be convinced of obviously crazy things
(phrasing wasn't so clean at the time)

rather, the opposite. I am pointing out that weaving (especially since mid-20th c) and knitting (substantially longer) are coded female, but have at least as good a claim to be "what software is about" as math (coded male)

Seeing usually smart folks getting rope-a-doped into arguing for LLM utility like there's a moral justice zero-sum trolley-problem slider between "useful" and "ethical" and we're just arguing about the best setting
But the real problem is even dumber
-is its mere use a climate disaster? Yes
-is its data provenance founded on theft? Also yes
-will it be used to ruin ordinary workers' lives? Yup
-will it ruin countless organizations who think they're buying their way to cheap labor? That too

"AI" product development is in a strategic falsifiability crisis
The crisis is shaped like the No True Scotsman fallacy, Sunk Cost fallacy, and conspiracy theories ALL AT THE SAME TIME
there is no possible accumulated evidence that would lead boosters to conclude that "an LLM isn't an appropriate artifact to address this problem"
I see them throwing LLMs at *already beyond-adequately solved problems* (units conversion! chess! constraint fitting!), getting *worse* results, and carrying on
