Here's a general piece of advice: don't use Uber eats. Just don't. Avoid third party delivery services like the plague. so I've just spent the last however long reading about left-communism and generally the history of the New Economic Policy, and generally diving into just what all this schism was even about. Here's my takeaway:
There are always going to be differences in tactics and strategies in how we approach the project of building socialism, and also, we really shouldn't let the rifts formed by extremely dead europeans over the tactics and specific policies over extremely dissolved nations define us today. the discourse seems, frankly, bad. Thankfully, it seems that the frankly abysmal discourse surrounding this doesn't seem to be present in the leftist communities to which I have found myself, including this network on fedi.
It is factionalist disputes like these which is why I just call myself a communist, or even a socialist in some company, because getting more specific stinks of a certain, almost protestant sort of denominationalism over things we really can bridge the gap about. hell, I can even reach across the aisle and shake hands with anarchists and call them comrades. Lenin was pragmatic, we must be pragmatic. we get so caught up in looking backwards that we forget to look forwards, to envision a new socialist future. we cannot lose sight of that, even as understanding the history of the imperialism and of previous revolutions is paramount. Capitalism's promise has come in a false way, it is not sustainable. It is a fire that is going to burn itself out of oxygen.
Industrial capitalism is a tremendously alien state of affairs, one enforced through violence and it poses an existential threat to us all, in the end. There is a choice, thankfully. What choice is made is yet to be determined.

I've finished reading The Jakarta Method and it's a good read to follow up having just recently read Blackshirts and Reds. Blackshirts and Reds was about the fall of the Second World, whereas this was the same story but centered around the Third World, it's about the killing of the dream associated with that phrase. Dedollarizing isn't just passing the torch from one imperial power to another, this is about establishing indigenous banks and development funds, this is about uplifting the Global South and ending the flow of unequal trade to the imperial core, flat out. the SWIFT system and international banks such as IMF and World Bank are distinctly US institutions, designed over 100 years ago for the benefit of the western powers when they all still had control over much of the world. these institutions, which are necessary pillars of neocolonialism, must be made obsolete. The US maintains sanctions on a third of all countries on Earth, sanctions which only have the power to freeze assets and halt dealings only while these institutions remain the only way.
The US and EU have raised interest rates, shooting their own economies in the foot, but by doing this they massively increase the value of their own currencies against global south currencies, making it even harder to pay off their debts or to raise interest rates themselves and destroy their own economies in the process. This is the flow of money and development away from the poorest counties, to the richest.

So called environmentalists cannot imagine civilization living in beneficial coexistence with nature. This is a failure of imagination. For thousands of years, societies lived not only in harmony with nature but actively contributed to the wellbeing of ecosystems to which we are a part. It is a total failure of imagination to think that we can not do so again. Short sighted exploitation of nature pushing natural systems and relations into a position of collapse is not an inherent quality of humanity but rather the result of a system of incentives--global capitalism. We can set up a system of incentives otherwise, a sustainable and co-beneficial system is possible. there has never yet been a successful revolution in the imperial core, not really, not since the paris commune. There is resistance and that is good but I really do fear that the crumbs offered in combination with massive oppression will always keep people docile enough to prevent radical change. There is a way but it is unprecedented, narrow, risky, and daunting. What gives me hope is that revolutionaries in many successful revolutions often had it much worse in many ways than we do now. Perhaps it will need to get worse before it gets better. I do know that revolution and change elsewhere, outside the imperial core, can force change. It is my hope that the global revolution will eventually reach the imperial core after the empire itself falls.

let the birth rates fall actually, it's fine. It is to the dismay of racists, landlords, evangelicals, and capitalists that people are having less kids. I'm not an antinatalist by any means, mind you, but it is worth reminding everybody that falling birth rates is not in fact a problem at all.

the US has done a pitiful job, the reliance on "the market" to fix climate change is ludicrous because there will never be a world where the initial investment is worth the payoff from a profit seeking prospective. state intervention is required.

the US, and indeed the democrats more broadly, have shown they are more interested in protectionist policies aimed against China than they are interested in investment into clean energy alternatives and vehicles. all their clean energy bluster is just that, talk.

I've only had bad experiences with them and also I have low self esteem, I guess it's less fear and more just, hesitance. I've been meaning to get back on the apps but im just worried that I will have the same troubles as the first time
