the problem is that they still have a lot of ground in the FOSS news space.
That of course will still lead to FUD. And if I'm being honest, it's starting to border on libel imo.

Does the 1st gen X1 Carbon have UEFI or BIOS?
The 7th gen model I had does have a bit less key travel than the prior 6 generations, but unlike the newer generations, it's still great, especially compared to modern low travel keyboards.
I currently don't use it, but it should be fine for anything non GPU intensive. I would use it more if it had an SD card or microSD card slot and an extra port or two. And a removable Wi-Fi card.

I did have one smaller game that crashed under Proton after the title screen due to missing codecs and libraries. After using ProtonTricks to install the missing 5 dependencies, it works.
None of the company's other games have this issue, and all of the rest of the them have good or even great Proton & Steam Deck support.

The saddest part is that so many big names intentionally break that compatibility with Linux by either using anti-cheat that either has their Proton and Linux support ripped out or is so invasive that you'd think Microsoft and/or China paid them to make it so, essentially what we'd call a rootkit in the cybersecurity field.
The only one I think is even remotely interesting was GTA V Online. Oh well, now I don't need that 💩 for any reason.

Honestly, not a fan. It looks like the Arc Menu extension in GNOME. With all of the other changes to Cinnamon recently, it really is feeling less like a DE and more like a "GNOME but slightly better out of the box experience but worse in other ways".
I'll probably stick to my current distro with either KDE Plasma or Xfce.

I am a bit nervous given upstream Wayland protocol discussions have... Gone circular again, but if they finally add global positioning support to KWin before Plasma 6.8 releases, I think 98% of users will be fine.

It doesn't line up in terms of expandability or scalability for really high-end workflows like what the Mac Pro had been geared towards. For example, the top-end 2019 Mac Pro GPU beats the M2 Ultra GPU in the SoC in 2022 model and can have almost 8 times as much RAM, neither of which can be upgraded unlike on the 2019 model. For 98% of people, this is unnecessary. But for many of those who went for the 2019 Mac Pro, it is likely unacceptable, and now they'll have to leave Apple.

While I'm glad to see Ubuntu move to Loupe & Ptyxis, what took them so long to move to Loupe from Eye of GNOME, especially given they moved to Papers from Evince one version BEFORE GNOME upstream? And when will they move to Showtime from Totem?
Strange things happening from Ubuntu that don't always make sense.

I'm not sure about the other person, but I sure did. Personally, I haven't had any issues with Btrfs, and there's always Ext4 if you don't like that. Bcachefs seems like it's (for better or worse) going to end up like Reiser4/5 fs.
You also have to remember that Kent refused to follow the kernel development rules. Not once, but many times.
Still, I wish Linus and other kernel developers would stop promoting drama in the LKML.

Isn't KDE older than GNOME though? (KDE 1.0 being released in 12 July 1998 and GNOME 1.0 released on 3 March 1999, so yes it is.) Still nice to see that in this regard, there's still some appreciation for both sides!
Still, looking back, it's impressive to see where both desktops started from and where both desktops ended up!

Imagine being so blind to users coming from Windows who need these applications that you hide them and put yourself into getting these questions like "how do I install this app I can't find it or it's too old" that could have been avoided...
Linux Mint really isn't the distro I'd recommend to beginners anymore...

X11 literally cannot support multi monitor setups in a half decent way. Wayland, like Windows and macOS, can. I also have had zero problems with Wayland on an Nvidia GPU (two newer models, but still).
What do you actually need for Wayland that X11 has but not Wayland. And don't say accessibility, because that barely worked even in a good day in X11.

Unfortunately, I didn't try Linux until Ubuntu 10.04 and I have no surviving pictures of this unfortunately, but I used it until 11.04 (and almost when 11.10 came out), and I remember thinking the default theme was better than macOS!
That laptop needed an hard drive replacement unfortunately...

Hot take: Mozilla needs to die for the browser market to be fixed. Will it be bad in the short term? Yes. Is Mozilla an ethical company? No.
