A quote from Clare Carlisle's 'Transcendence for Beginners' about biography and life:
'Biography is a humble literary genre, rooted in our natural curiosity about other people. This desire to know already carries the seed of a philosophical quest that arises, according to Plato, in the gap between appearances and reality. I meet someone, see how she presents herselfand then I wonder, what's she really like? What is she not telling or showing me? But while Socrates went around Athens asking, 'What is a human being?', I want to know who this singular person is.
A biography's subject matter is typically a whole life. One whole human life, from birth to death that's a lot. Not just a lot of time, but a lot happening. And, for a philosopher, a lot to think about. This subject has special ethical weight: people often say that a human life is precious, even sacred. According to Aristotle, ethics is concerned with whole lives, because happiness or flourishing 'requires a complete life'. If you believe in God, you might imagine how he will judge your life as a whole, once it is finished. So the concept of a whole life is on the horizon of ethics, and on the horizon, I think, of our day-to-day experience. This concept seems ready and waiting to spring into thoughts like, What am I doing with my life? or, Oh my God I'm at least halfway through my life.
Yet being on the horizon also means that it is elusive. It very hard, if not impossible, to pick out the entity captured by the concept of one whole life. Right now, for each of us, our whole life is a mystery. Perhaps biographies, like fictional life stories, appeal to such a wide reading public because they offer the chance to move at lightning speed through a life that has clearer contours than our own, and thereby gain some sense of a wholeness that usually eludes us - a metaphysical impulse, spurred on by love of gossip. Moreover, and this troubles a philosopher, the very concept of a life is difficult to pin down. It seems somewhat different from adjacent concepts such as that the concept of a person includes everything that has person, individual or self- unless you think, like Leibniz, happened and will ever happen to him, as well as all the , is and will be connected to other things, so ways he that each human soul contains 'traces of everything that happens in the universe, even though God alone could recognise them all.'
The practice of life writing brings into view this concept of a whole life. Of course, a biographer need not enter directly into metaphysical speculations. Rather, in grappling with technical and aesthetic questions that arise while writing a life - questions about literary form, authorial judgment, narrative voice - she draws closer to the question of the *being* of a life. Truth becomes especially salient. Another person's *whole* life is a weighty subject: even if the biographer does not appoint herself as its judge, she is making it available for public judgement. So her account must be truthful and fair. But what does that entail?
This question was posed by André Maurois, biographer of Shelley, Byron, Voltaire, George Sand, Balzac and Proust, when he gave the Clark Lectures at Trinity College, Cambridge about a hundred years ago. His theme was biography considered as both an art and a science. He urged that a life must be written 'with a strict care for the truth - a care not only for the truths of fact (so far as the unfortunate biographer can attain them) but for that profounder truth which is poetic truth.' As Maurois discovered, life writing turns out to be a rather elastic genre in which distinctions between fact and imagination, between description and interpretation, between fiction and non-fiction, are not easily drawn. In the effort to choose words that minimize the constant risk of lapsing into untruth, the biographer runs into the deep question of the truth of a life.'

Today I've submitted more than seven separate reports of AI slop on Tidal, a music-streaming platform.
This happens to most music-streaming platforms. As far as I know, only Deezer label AI-generated audio.
Tidal should have checks in place to make sure that AI-generated and/or fradulent BS isn't uploaded for well-known artists.
For example, on average, I get one release alert per week for TORRES and Underworld, and I *know* it's going to be fake. This waters down the entire 'Just released!' experience which used to be enjoyable.
AI is ruining a lot of things but these companies should easily implement some checks to make sure this BS is stopped before being released.

She warned that big tech’s vast knowledge of individuals, stemming from their massive accumulation of data, allows them to do more than just target advertising; they can create sophisticated targeting mechanisms. All of these tactics are designed to capture users’ attention, maximize their time on platforms and keep them engaged in order to influence their decisions. Zuboff emphasized the dire consequences of such omniscient power, linking it to the spreading of disinformation on social media, unnecessary Covid deaths and the storming of the United States Capitol on 6 January 2021 by supporters of the Republican president Donald Trump. ‘These are all connected points in one process,’ Zuboff asserted, ‘and the process is called “how knowledge becomes power.”’
In a similar tone and with a similar message, in Privacy Is Power: Why and How You Should Take Back Control of Your Data (2020), the philosophy and ethics scholar Carissa Véliz states: ‘They are watching us. They know I am writing these words. They know you are reading them. Governments and hundreds of corporations are spying on you and me, and everyone we know. Every minute of every day.’ Véliz highlights that these entities are not just passive observers: ‘They want to know who we are, what we think, where we hurt. They want to predict and influence our behaviour.’
All of which sounds like the hyperbolic claims advanced by the tech giants themselves, such as when Eric Schmidt, then Google CEO, said that Google ‘more or less’ knows what people are thinking: ‘With your permission, you give us more information about you, about your friends, and we can improve the quality of our searches. We don’t need you to type at all. We know where you are. We know where you’ve been. We can more or less know what you’re thinking about.’
These warnings encapsulate the flavour of the contemporary discussion about privacy. Through accessing our data, corporations and governments can know what we are thinking and feeling, and even change our minds. Elections are fought and lost, democracies die, and so do people. There is a lot at stake. But many of the claims don’t stand up."

This part of the article is very enlightening from a worker perspective, especially when Google upper management have relatively recently fired around 10,000 workers:
'Once Google stops growing, it becomes a "mature" company and its PE ratio will fall from 20:1 to something more like 4:1, meaning an 80% collapse in the company's share price. This would be very bad news for Googlers (whose personal wealth is disproportionately tied up in Google stock) and for Google itself (because many of its key personnel will depart when the shares they've banked for retirement collapse, and new hires will expect to be paid in scarce dollars, not abundant stock). For a company like Google, "maturity" is unlikely to be a steady state – rather, it's likely to be a prelude to collapse.
Which is why Google is so desperately sweaty to maintain the narrative about its growth.'

Dozens are killed and wounded daily from Israeli shells, missiles, drones, bombs and bullets. They lack clean water, medicine and food. They have reached a point of collapse. Sick. Injured. Terrified. Humiliated. Abandoned. Destitute. Starving. Hopeless.
In the last pages of this horror story, Israel is sadistically baiting starving Palestinians with promises of food, luring them to the narrow and congested nine-mile ribbon of land that borders Egypt. Israel and its cynically named Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), allegedly funded by Israel’s Ministry of Defense and the Mossad, is weaponizing starvation. It is enticing Palestinians to southern Gaza the way the Nazis enticed starving Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto to board trains to the death camps. The goal is not to feed the Palestinians. No one seriously argues there is enough food or aid hubs. The goal is to cram Palestinians into heavily guarded compounds and deport them.
What comes next? I long ago stopped trying to predict the future. Fate has a way of surprising us. But there will be a final humanitarian explosion in Gaza’s human slaughterhouse. We see it with the surging crowds of Palestinians fighting to get a food parcel, which has resulted in Israeli and U.S. private contractors shooting dead at least 130 and wounding over seven hundred others in the first eight days of aid distribution. We see it with Benjamin Netanyahu’s arming ISIS-linked gangs in Gaza that loot food supplies. Israel, which has eliminated hundreds of employees with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), doctors, journalists, civil servants and police in targeted assassinations, has orchestrated the implosion of civil society.'

If your art or music is true and honest, it does hold a power and strength that some people might find uncomfortable, and therefore it gets hit.'

I'm a middle-aged white male. I'll say this about censorship of so-called LGBTQIA+ books:
If you're offended by books about sexuality, perhaps especially other sexualities than what you feel is your own, you're the problem. Sexuality isn't a problem. Trying to limit other peoples' choices is a problem.
This has nothing to do with 'oh, they're older, things were different then' or any other kind of psychobabble to excuse this type of censorship.
This is xenophobia, nothing else; it's about trying to forbid what you've perhaps not experienced or considerably thought through, which is appalling and anti-intellectual.
We should always speak out when people try to limit the rights of others.

Faktiskt, även om Theodore lägger ned mycket mer tid på att underhålla hela projektet än han drar in. Det mesta av intäkterna används för att investera vidare i projektet. Han visar även hur miljöpåverkan sker. Det är väldigt fint, tycker jag.
