I should have guess that you were behind the Victoria weather station network. Using it now to find the warmest beach for a Sunday get together. Used it during the heat dome (2024?) to find the coolest beach :)

the white ones with dark scales look like Chlorophyllum. Maybe C. rhacodes (https://www.mushroomexpert.com/chlorophyllum_rhacodes.html) but hard to pin down a species without seeing the underside of the cap and the stalk. C. molybdites is another possibility — a fairly toxic mushroom.
Not sure about the other ones.

I’ve had a very similar experience with my VW ID.4, which we've owned now for more than 2 years. As a car, it's the best I've ever owned. The instant torque, low centre of gravity, and silent operation is just fantastic. As a computer (and I say this as a software professional who's written his share of bugs), it's still beta quality and needs many more cycles of acceptance testing and bug fixing.

This reminded me of a study Apple did in the 80's to determine if a keyboard interface was more efficient than a mouse-based one. My recollection is that mouse proved faster, but users reported they felt more efficient using a keyboard. Needless to say, this proved controversial.

Monotropa uniflora (aka ghost pipe, aka ghost plant) usually likes shady spots but the sun was hitting this patch making them look pretty darn glamorous. Often mistaken for a fungus this is a non-chlorophyll plant that is parasitic on fungal mycelia. #bloomscrolling #mosstodon #VictorIaBC #yyj

This is something of an experiment for me. Normally I make knives from stainless steel (AEB-L or NitroV) because I give them as gifts. If you're planning on visiting both cities, consider taking a float plane (Harbour Air) one direction, and BC Ferries the other. The plane is not cheap, but it's an experience you'll remember. The ferry navigates through the Gulf Islands which are very picturesque.

It's early January, but the forest is still filled with big, charismatic fungi. These are from a walk in the Sooke hills today: 1. A gorgeous, but unseasonal Amanita aprica, 2. maybe Urnula padeniana?, 3. a set of super slimy late-fall oysters (Sarcomyxa serotina), and 4. a troupe of tiny shelf fungus that might be in the Stereum genus.

A curious pair of fungi found on today’s forest walk. The first is a very substantial Tricholoma magnivelare (AKA western matsutake, pine mushroom). The other looks to be a small Amanita silvicola. The first is a prized edible that commands very high prices and is often shipped to Japan. The other could put you on the kidney transplant list.

Found some lovely patches of wooly/scaly chanterelles on today's forest walk. Definitely Turbinellus. Probably T. floccusus. Don't mistake these for golden chanterelles unless you want a really rough night.

I expect they're all the same species at different levels of maturity. I would have called these Lycoperdon perlatum, but then I noticed they'e growing on wood, so that's wrong. All the #fungi are popping up early, here on southern Vancouver Island. It must be because of the November weather in August. Came across these cute little birch boletes (Lecciunum scabrum, I think) on an urban boulevard while walking the dog.
