I work in the CRM industry and have watched this for years. When it comes to both chatbots and human-centric support centers, the quality of content and interactions are generally proportional to customers' ability to hold that company accountable for a bad experience.
Chatbots, like the processes we put into a human call center, can be tweaked to be relevant. But there is varying incentive...and competence...to do so.

'Of course, tying individual executives' bonuses to making a number go up has a predictably perverse outcome. As Goodhart's law has it, "Any metric becomes a target, and then ceases to be a useful metric.'
We're living this in the Salesforce ecosystem right now. They recently replaced all their well-functioning support forms with agents powered by their bet-the-company AI bots. And the outcome is predictable: it's twice as hard for partners and customers to get the specific help they need, and which they knew how to easily get from the support forms. Many of these forms kicked off automated processes that are essential to partner business. Now you have to argue with a bot that gets things wrong, requires more effort to interact with, and acts as a case deflection tool. All because someone had a number-go-up metric to meet.

I do agree. But two obstacles present themselves here:
1) The form of subsidies will likely require a significant outlay from indivuduals, some of whom can’t afford it (my frame of reference here is rural California).
2) I doubt our insurance commissioner is about to do anything to meaningfully lower premiums when he’s taking money and junkets from the industry he’s charged with regulating.

It’s definitely needed. And a LOT of folks in rural areas don’t have the money to do it. So I suspect it will really depend on the level of subsidy and how much outlay it requires of homeowners.

An almost perfect example of @npub1fdr…lvhs’s #Enshittification in action; financially-engineered holding companies with many “competing” brands inserting DRM into the batteries they make to give them an informational advantage in denying your warranty claim. And a missed opportunity to make the battery better by using that on-battery computing to rebalance the cells.

With plurality vote general elections, there will only ever be two primary parties.
If you haven't read it already, check out Fixing Elections from 2002. It informed my support for RCV early on. But as we've seen in San Francisco, it's not a panacea: money still somewhat dominates our elections, especially the citywide races.

I'm with you there. Our experience with it in San Francisco has shown that it's harder to buy off pols. But the billionaires here have still found a way to control politics by taking over the Dem party establishment and by funneling billions (with a B) into local elections. It's not a panacea...it needs to be coupled with a strong political movement that holds the politicians accountable.

#Oregon just became the first state to end private equity and corporate control of doctor and clinical practices.

And it evokes @npub1fdr…lvhs’s reminder that although AI probably can’t do your job, an AI salesman can probably convince your boss that it can.
In the end, this technology (or rather the market for this tech) is aimed squarely at its least noble use: cheapening and degrading human labor that doesn’t fit neatly into a balance sheet.

I got to tour the Shuttle Carrier 747 at that same air show. The empty lower deck, with the crew rest area in the nose area, was pretty astounding too. Can only imagine having to ride that thing, at 200 knots max, and a low altitude, all the way from CA to Florida...

I keep hearing news outlets, including NPR, uncritically referring to Musk's efforts to fire or handcuff federal employees as a cost-cutting measure. This is irresponsible: federal workers make up only 5%-6% of the federal budget. Any news article referring to DOGE's gutting of oversight employees needs to reference this fact. You cannot job-cut your way to cost savings in government.
