that could be. i tried implementing a drawing queue that would queue up drawing and execute only once in draw() but still had that issue. i also tried blocking drawing outside of drawing queue so only updates once but had same (or at least looked the same) issue. so i'm still a bit stuck on that one. it's not the biggest issue but i'm trying to get feature parity with processing so trying to solve it.

yes! some of the students did markedly improve! i did more 1-on-1 pair programming during class work sessions, which i think helped quite a bit for a few students. unfortunately, still a significant minority that are chronically absent, or show up really late to class, and those are the students that are still grasping at the basics of like syntax and functions.

some of these make sense for integrating in future iterations of the class. I'm totally overwhelmed here because half of the class is on top of things - are programming with classes/objects, arrays, understand basic logic, a quarter are treading water, and a quarter are completely lost.

This year I am struggling with what to do with students that can't do really basic programming in my intro classes. I have a few who are not retaining any info, can't remember any syntax, are not able to do week 2 or 3 levels of knowledge. In the past I usually assumed these students weren't doing any outside of class studying, but more and more I think there are some really fundamental learning disabilities exacerbated by uneven education during early years of the pandemic. I don't really feel like the office of disability resources would be that helpful here? I am talking to my colleagues and finding they are experiencing this as well. I haven't yet found much support or ideas on how to address it.

I have an experimental documentary/autobiographical story of sorts that I've created in code and features two people talking. I programmed it in javascript with WEBGL with the p5.js library.
In the next phase I want to add subtitles, but I'm not sure the best way to sync subtitles with the audio. Any suggestions? (hundreds of setTimeout functions???)
Alternatively, since the narrative is currently linear, maybe it makes more sense to render video output, and then place subtitles on top manually?? (not sure if that would be easier for me. in any case ,relies on time stamps!).

I have a friend that built out a worldbuilding tool for Unity. (yes, I tried to encourage them to use Godot. Anyway...)They are trying to figure out how to license their tool. They are not charging money for it or selling it as a plugin. Mostly, they just want a credit line if people use it in thir projects, like "This project was built with XYZ".
Do you have a suggestion for them? FYI Their tool was mostly built with digital assets rather than in code.
I was thinking they could ask folks to do this, in the tool's documentation with a suggested credit line. Any other ideas?

My first two blog posts on porting 1970s economic sims Hamurabi (The Sumerian Game, The Sumer Game, HMRBI) and The Oregon Trail (Oregon) from their earlier BASIC codebases to the modern Yabasic.
I am not a BASIC expert. In fact, I haven't used it much previously, which will likely be obvious in my writeup! The language is easy, and Yabasic is wonderful, so porting has been quite easy!
It's also really nice to examine a codebase written before I was born, well-commented code, and use those notes to figure out how to adapt the code to work on "modern" machines. Yabasic is at least 25 years old (I can't find the starting year. Does anyone know?).
I write about choices I'm making, a desire to work with compelling but low-energy-consumption software. I hope to write more of these as I port or write other similar games, and use it as a tool to discuss platform studies, critical code studies, and digital humanities.
