Look who turned three this week! To celebrate, I got new slippers!
As I type this, she is lying on her back across my lap. She is very much a velcro pup. So cuddly. So affectionate. Such a source of joy! We are so lucky to have pup in our family!

Studio Tunic finally made it out of the WIP pile! I started this months ago but hit a snag when all the neck and armhole facings were 2cm short (at least I am consistent). Switched to bias binding; made my own from a batch of fat quarters I had for a pillow project that never materialized. Seams are Frenched and all the bias binding is understitched. It is sturdy! I'm still not sure about the fit; it's a bit larger than it needs to be but I think it will work with boots and a bit of styling. Made from thrift store linen. I am pleased with this make. I made the most of the long weekend and sewed jersey covers for four yoga bolsters (so soft - I wish I had done this sooner), repaired a tank top, finished the arms holes in a dress I had modified, and repaired a skirt hem.
I have another pattern waiting in the wings and some more second hand fabric in my stash! Onward!

I have been using the recipe you gave me with some variation! I tamp before I do an overnight brine, rinse, mix with paste and whatever else I am adding, weigh it down, top with leftover brine, wait. We go through a fair bit of kimchi here. This is three cabbages and about a gallon.

This batch has got a nice kick! I usually make kimchi and sauerkraut in 4L jars but this one has a much wider mouth so I was able to fit the weights in without having to use anything else (cabbage leaves). The lid isn't air tight so it's actually a much better set up. I have been doing a four day fermentation for the last couple of batches but this one hung out for 7. It's lovely.

Czech Republic represented by Czech Beef Goulash (Hovězí guláš) with Bread Dumplings (Czech Houskové knedlíky). This was delicious! I steamed the dumplings, and they turned out so beautifully. Lovely dough to work with. The goulash has a nice kick.

When I went to attach the arm and neck hole facings, everything was off by about 1cm (at least I make consistent mistakes), so I decided to do bias binding. First attempt didn't lie flat on the front so ripped it out, understitched it, redid it, and it's not too bad now. I am doing bias binding for the arm holes. I might hem it with bias binding too. I like it better now that the neck is done than I did before. I think I have missed the sizing a bit. We shall see. I think a stiffer fabric might work better. It's the same linen as the yoga weights.

Running on the snow really does engage different muscles - the Alaskan runner sounds like they've got it figured out. I wonder if you didn't do anything out of the ordinary to your knee if it's being pulled by tightness somewhere because of muscles engaging differently on the snow. For example, I notice if my IT band is tight, I can feel it in my knee.

Good question! I have always thought of running in the snow to be an exercise for my stability muscles. I think it makes me stronger. I go very slow (+ 3-4 min/km) in snow compared to clear paths. I have always thought of winter as a time to work on easy, low impact mileage. I adhere pretty strictly to no more than 10% increases in mileage during a build or from year to year. I also do yoga everyday (mostly yin and restorative - stretching and recovery/rest) tailored to my running training. I am really attentive to how I feel and gear my recovery to that (e.g. tightness in my low back almost always means I need to release my glutes with pigeon or figure 4, for example). Aside from breaking and spraining my ankle on black ice five years ago, I am *touch wood* not experiencing any running related issues. My joints feel pretty good. When you say tweaked, do you mean you stepped oddly and injured it or pain or?

I feel it's an opportune time to mention as we enjoy the 90cm of snow on the ground, 70+ of it falling last week, that back in October I roasted a twinkie. I am not taking all the credit for the snow, but I think it would be prudent to get your brûlée torches ready for next season.

Carried my skates for my long run so I could do a winter brick workout. Out of the trail shoes and into the skates. My legs felt a little funny for the first couple of km but were okay after that. Ended up skating more than I ran, love bonus kilometres! Gorgeous weather for skating!

The last of the 5$ second hand fabric was used to make a new couch bed for pup. Her previous bed (also homemade with thrift store fabric) was starting to get a little threadbare. This has one snap button that was repurposed from something else at the end of its life. Reuse. Repurpose. Recycle. Now her bed matches the other couch cushions.

Caught up on a few sewing projects today - a meditation cushion. These retail for 144$ - I paid 5$ for the cotton second hand (this is the second of three projects I've used it for) and 22$ for two cotton pillows. Cheap and cheerful - my ankles are happy!

I am thinking August. I have found a whole bunch of gravel routes and I am going to suss out pit stops/camping along the way. Although I saw pictures of last year with mud in August quite close to where one route passes me, so I will do some recce and see what's what. I prefer to not walk my bike through mud.

Got to run 50.37km with 1575m elevation gain along the East Coast Trail from Signal Hill to Pouch Cove in Newfoundland last weekend. Beautiful route, very technical single track, all the typical weather from home, freshest air, scratched legs, Labrador tea along the trail. Great job with nutrition - really pleased with myself. New shoes didn't pass muster (formerly asics fujitrabuco gtx, but they changed, now hooka challenger), too smooshy, I prefer a firmer sole and the foamy soles were useless on wet trails. Absolutely shite on rocks/roots. Solid last training run and am now in taper for another crack at breaking 80km.
