I have a fear that voters *will* reject Trumpism in 2026/28, and elect a Democrat with the expectation they’ll quickly repair the US’s position in the world, only to be shocked that the rest of the world no longer cares to let the US have that position back, and much of the economic damage from Trump is now just baked in and isn’t quickly repairable, causing the fickle US voters to swing wildly back toward the next authoritarian.

My fear is that voters will give democrats a single term chance to fix it, but then get all upset because some stuff is a generational fix voters don’t have patience for (eg foreign investments and business going elsewhere) and instead turn right back to the next fascist promising to make things great.

not to mention employees often don’t want to move just because their employer wants to. Company I used to work for got taken private, then a year later the owner decided to relocate the company and select employees to Colorado. Only thing is, most of those “select employees” declined to move and got other jobs. They basically lost most of their senior people. They even called me up, being a former employee at the time, because they were struggling to get people to move.

I voted Nader that year (my first election), and even though my state went for Gore I’ve regretted that vote ever since and have felt like I’ve been made to pay penance for it by having to watch younger people make the same boneheaded vote thinking the parties are both the same.

Washington State has been great, too. Lots of drop boxes (built like tanks, not the wimpy ones like the Wausau Mayor wheeled away earlier), and a good ballot tracker website so you can see that they received your ballot and verified all the necessary stuff (the tracker works for both mail and ballot box).

the US has a puritanical streak going to the 17th century, where bad language is a far worse thing than violence. It’s bonkers. In several states you can be cited for publicly cursing in the presence of a child, but open-carry of firearms is just accepted.
