Part of the issue is that there is a threshold of atrocity where it reabstracts itself into something you cant do anything about. I was just griping about how bearing witness doesnt do enough after a certain point but alienate - my angle is more on the 'what do we do about it' and the answer being 'bear more witness and drag others into it' and that being demotivational if you already have been shaken by it - no, you want an outlet to fight back, not pass along the worst things youve ever seen.

i wonder when first uptakes like that happen - when were you like 'there really is something to this' after a first or few impressions.
I had that with Bach and it was a ton of sources exposure but yeah, church itself with the pipe organs doing Bach service and a half, and Wendy Carlos' seminal album. There really is something to it, hahaha

See, toons as this cultural lexicon of the writers and animators is amazing for basically capsulating what was known and referential for future generations. Intentional or not, it does it where the range of reference gives you an idea of the team and what captured their fancy and intrigues.
Bugs as Valkyrie on the cartoonishly proportioned horse always got me, but I also got a payload of 'this is opera, this is a specific kind of Germanic Opera' and its like, whether youre fan of Wagner or like Bugs in drag cause there has never been coyer, its a cultural artifact of appreciation and reference.
