I think all these differences are just technical. To the user there's no practical difference; bsky.app has all the power over ATProto that mastodon.social has over ActivityPub. Relays can block PDSes like instances defederate from each other. If a PDS decides to delete your data you're just as fucked as you would be if a mastodon admin did the same. Neither system has any built in economic incentives for any of these admins not to try to profit from your attention.

disc brakes are super simple, but drum brakes are quite a bit more painful. just be real careful not to fuck up the brake lines by letting the calipers dangle, they get brittle and fixing them is a MUCH bigger job.

I believe you can handle custom methods with express by checking the `req.method` property, and send them by passing {method: 'CUSTOM'} to `http.request()`
But there could be some load balancer, or router in the way that doesn't allow custom methods.

Ford and GM both promised EV crate motors years ago. They just announced that they will to prevent third parties from entering the market.
The best place to look these days are the hobbiests; there are open source firmwares for Toyota Prius inverters that can work for EV conversions and lots of people are rebuilding Tesla batteries with open controllers.

I never got into the Sony Playstation; I was a #Sega kid. I've been playing through the PS1 library, and though it's MASSIVE, there's really not a lot of #games that are any good. A big part of the fun of #retroGaming is the nostalgia of playing games you remember playing or wanted to play as a kid. So, maybe it's just my perspective, but I feel like the #Saturn and #N64 had a better ratio of shovelware to quality gaming.

Nothing they sell is exactly what I want. The mycology still boxes are made for handling spores, not fruiting, so they aren't blacked out or insulated. The grow tents are made for plants so they aren't air tight.
My plan is to fruit in shallow trays and stack several trays on a shelf. There will also need to be space for an IR heating bulb, and a water vaporizer, and the switches that automate them.

One great use for this is tuning your #filtered words.
If you #filter a lot of words (and you should) then you may be worried that you're #filtering out posts you would have liked to see.
Just click "filtered" and then sort by "#likes" or "#boosts" and it will show you posts you can't see that other people seem to like. This can help you decide whether to unmute some words or not.

I just figured out how to use @npub1lce…6aaz's "Catch Up" feature and it's even more awesome than I thought!
It starts by loading up all the posts in your #timeline up to some point in history.
Then it lets you filter and sort the timeline in various ways.
The cool part is you can filter by followed #hashtags and muted words as well!
And the whole time it breaks down the visible posts by user, so you can identify the noisiest users in you follow, or people who spam a #hashtag!

I think it should be clear to everyone by now that nobody is choosing #ReactJS for performance reasons. People are choosing #React for another reason; it makes it easier for large teams to manage complex state without thrashing the DOM.
You can shout about how much faster my sites would be without React all day, but if not using it means I have to go back to Backbone and the mess of imperative DOM manipulation that caused I'll just become a farmer instead.

There's a myth on the #Fediverse that you can build different kinds of apps on #ActivityPub than #Mastodon.
It's not entirely untrue; it's just a protocol, you can implement all, or none of it. Free country.
But if you want to get #federated you have to be compatible with Mastodon. All the cool features in the world (#misskey) won't matter if nobody can see them.
The generic primitive of AP is the Activity; that's all. You can extend it, but you can't make everyone else do so.

From time to time I take a month off to revert to a worthless pothead.
It offers me a lot of perspective on my sobriety when I do sober back up.
When I do, I feel like I've been running with a heavy backpack and suddenly it's taken off and I feel so light I end up tripping over myself.
It's weird that I have an easier time focusing when I high but it's like my brain just runs at too high a clock rate normally and I need to under clock it to keep it from crashing.

Nostr is like ActivityPub, except your id is a cryptographic key instead of a domain name. That means you don't have to pick an "instance". Instead there are "relays" which anyone can run, and you can choose different ones to publish to at any time.
On fedi, either you have to run your own instance, or accept the fact that your instance provider can deplatform you for any reason at any time and you lose all your followers and content.

I enjoy #generativeAI art; I think it's fun to do and I believe it's having a positive effect on our culture; uniting stylistic sensibilities in ways we never would have imagined on our own.
That said; I get super annoyed when I see something #aiGenerated on #Pinterest. Which is ironic because they definitely use boards to train #AI recommendation algorithms. But we use Pinterest to get ideas for things we want to make, so it kinda matters that those things can exist.

Twitter and Reddit actually encourage this kind of behavior; it's culturally acceptable to jump into random strangers replies with a snide comment, or a witty riff. Offering a counter point to the throngs of dissenting readers is a viable method of engagement farming on those sites. It gives people brainworms; normal societies do not allow strangers to randomly contradict people. It's rude.

Nobody wants to describe it that way because it makes proof-of-work sound so incredibly wasteful, but to me--as a programmer who understands how hard it actually is to do anything at random, or to prevent malicious humans from gaming a system--it's fucking brilliant! It's simple, elegant, and it works. The energy use is simply the cost of the very difficult task at hand. A task that needed to be done, without central authority. It's worth every watt!
