Gestures & Expressions No.1
A #StreetPhotography exercise in #BlackAndWhite shot on the streets of #Glasgow.
I realise in some countries such images are not allowed by law but in the UK candid photography is allowed in public spaces. The only limitation is an ethical one and I was careful not to mock, humiliate or photograph anyone in distress.

I found this simple, small artwork on a brick wall down rainy Ashton Lane in the west end of Glasgow yesterday and it just tugged at my heartstrings, something about the solemn expression spoke to me. #photography #StreetArt

Even without a camera - I love to stop, sit on a fallen tree and just listen, to the birdsong, the wind in the leaves, watch the dappled sunlight and occasionally catch a glimpse of wildlife. I'm part of a small volunteer group that looks after our local woodland, doing clean-ups, installing birdboxes, clearing invasive species etc It's very rewarding.

Our kids return home for Christmas today - their 24th birthday - so I'm going to be quiet on here for a week, so I would like to wish everyone a happy Christmas and a peaceful, healthy 2024.

Now that the nights are drawing in, I think I might revive an old project that began during the pandemic.
When I was working nights from home, I began taking long, rambling walks around the area where I live to de-stress before trying to sleep.
Using only my mobile phone, I started recording scenes that caught my eye, and the Night Walks In Suburbia project was born.

Spring and Summer
These acrylics complete my seasons set. These were created using a gelli plate to build layers, with manual additions using scrunched-up tinfoil and an old bank card.
I'm an absolute beginner when it comes to painting (so please be gentle!) but I'm enjoying the learning and experimentation process.

I had a couple of cyanotypes where I wasn't happy with the lack of detail so as an experiment I went back over them with a fineliner and some silver/gold acylics, applied with scrunched-up silver foil. What do you think?

I recently bought a gel plate to experiment with abstract acrylic painting and I have to say I see huge potential in this medium, especially when using iridescent or metallic acrylics. It's a perfect loose, expressive method for someone like me who loves abstract art.
I suspect I will use a lot of paper and ink before I settle on a style and technique I'm happy with, but that's the fun bit.
