If you have to add so much support the argument for such a printer (for which there aren't proven designs for heatchambers etc) does run thin though. 😉 Additionally the current algorithm was most likely designed to specifically omit supports, so there'd still be work to do in that regard as well. Work that ultimately puts the whole value proposition into question.
The more I think about it the more I'm convinced companies are probably in the R&D step for it right now.

I assume ease of use and print quality isn't where it has to be, although I'm surprised there's literally no commercial device anyway. I assume it has something to do with the projected price, some commercial reason.
To take full advantage you'd also need a segmented print bed that can move up only the required build space, he had to prop up the center to avoid bed collisions and make the 180° angles on the upside-down benchy even possible.

Someone here said I should try #Matrix using the main matrix.org instance (which apparently is currently bombarded with registrations?) and Element X because of all the issues I have, and instead of ranting on here to properly write them down.
This was about 15 to 20 minutes in. Some of them are minor and a matter of changing text or up to debate if it's even an issue, but mind the existence of a dark pattern and… well, here you go. I didn't even try Spaces yet. Or let alone the old Element.

Seems like the right-wing agitprop botnet currently pestering Lemmy (and also Mastodon I think) had a weird hickup.
So far those bots never used the comment section, just posted things (first more normal, then increasingly subtly agitating to outright fash stuff - but always as a batch, all at once in different channels) and then vanished (Lemmy retains posts from deleted accounts, unfortunately). Whoever runs these things most likely tinkers with more advanced propaganda settings for the Fedi.

I sometimes try to prescribe things not just factual, but (especially with beautiful photos) also by describing it through comparable sensations like music or taste. Like this (for northern lights):

A "short guide to alt text" would be awesome. There are a lot of details to optimize it which people who write it probably don't know since many never even heard a screenreader. Small things like, when transcribing captions or tags, to use camel case instead of all caps since most screen readers (apparently) can read one properly but would spell out each individual letter with the other. Although I might got that wrong myself, I once saw someone mention something close to this… 😅

In public companies the success or even existence of a company is directly correlated to profit numbers and dividends, they quite literally can't follow any other ideals than profit maximization without being punished. In private companies the owners can follow ideals even if that means a reduction in profits, this however stands and falls with whatever mood the (potentially benevolent) dictator is in.

- Agama Installer doesn't install *any* DE by default
- Agama Installer screws up setting up disk encryption correctly (swap doesn't get decrypted or set-up automatically)
- Comes without 32-bit support at all breaking things like Steam (despite it being just one additional package an kernel argument), yet advertising themselves for gaming
OpenSuse is an absolute mess right now and it's REALLY hard to like them. I certainly have a really hard time.

- All Wiki articles are wrong as they still recommend YaST2
- The Repo website still offers .ymp files for "1-Click Install". Which required YaST2.
- Installing a newer Kernel as described causes the system updater to effectively break
- Zypper constantly tries to downgrade the kernel, despite higher repo priority
- Zypper ignores added locks (!)
- Bootloader configurator gone (was YaST2)

1. On big surfaces the ironing flowrate is too low.
2. My settings for the "grid" support structures are so phenomenally bad that I accidentally made a statement about code in the backend or under the hood often being really scuffed. 😅

You got these things to work at all? I just accepted that all my sessions are unverified forever and that my keys never work. Because they literaly never did, once I synced, verified or anything else the popup just appeared again. Or the client got stuck in some window.
I think FluffyChat was the only client that was able to verify itself for me, once. Element, Cinny, SchildiChat, they all suffer from the absurdity that is Matrix.

Given most 3D printing enthusiasts aren't professional engineers materials like PETG are very good at hiding bad design choices, low quality or wet filament, low quality print settings etc. 🤭
This definitely is fascinating. I wonder how long this PLA hook would've held up in a long-time stress test, where e.g. a force of 750kg was applied and released over and over again. No clue how PLA behaves, if it forms microfractures etc.

What I heard about #Defcon always felt weird, but what's currently circulating really are, if true, nails to its coffin. Prusa. I know about SOVOL they're "basically" using Voron designs as their base which is probably not that bad, may read more about how they operate later. I'm curious why you think Prusa is also a total trash company. I only know of one thing they did in regards to the Core One (not publishing the schematics immediately), which so far is the only thing I know which is questionable. They did provide a good reason though (being under pressure by dicks like Bambu).

There's something soothing about watching old machines (very relative here, it's an 8 years old 3D printer) still doing the job they were build to do trustfully.
Not a perfect print, evidently (the PLA isn't exactly dry and, well, it's still a Bowden). But more than usable for any functional part.

Recommending against preinstalled, ready-to-use Linux devices for such reasons (where do you even heard this?) is doing casual users a tremendous disservice. I've seen nothing about these companies that would indicate they're shipping computers with such things on them. On the contrary, their distros looked well maintained, and they do ship with others if you want as well.
And even w/o OS, those machines are made to work perfectly with Linux. That's worth a lot.

Haha, yeah… and Mastodon is probably *the* social network where you'll get barraged by comments of IT hobbyists who somewhat miss that, for many people, a computer isn't more than a car or a toilet. It should just work, tinkering with it doesn't have to be exciting.

Welp, it wasn't #Nvidia. After my brothers system became unbootable, #Linux kernel 6.13.0-1 appears to cause my #OpenSuse #Tumbleweed (AMD/AMD) to freeze during boot as well. Doesn't recognize my keyboard presses during password entry or new USB devices anymore, so the kernel seems to be royally dead.
Reverting to 6.12.xx fixed the issue.
Anyone else on Tumbleweed who experiences this? 🤨

Last thing that happened to me before moving to OpenSuse eas when they merged or changed some packages regarding systemd-boot, necessitating manual intervention (inadvertantly breaking everyone's system unless you read their news before every single update) because they couldn't bother to write a post-install script that *at least* gives you a big fat warning in the terminal about it.

The fact you shouldn't make important decisions under the influence of drugs is inarguable, yes.
I know the prejudice of everyone with face tattoos being a 'meth head', and it's as unhelpful and offensive as any other prejudice is. Even if an unproportional amount of meth users are inked that doesn't justify to perpetuate something like that. It's comparably shitty as connecting homosexual people with AIDS or sth. (mind that there are cultures celebrating ink).

Same question. Recreational drug use per se isn't an indicator of bad character when done in a controlled fashion, let it be Alcohol, Weed or sth. like MDMA. The social acceptance and laws are just different based on substance, which is mostly nonsensical.
Only very few substances are so toxic and addictive that *any* use can be deemed a mistake (still not a sign of bad character, we all got a negative potential). Like "bath salts" or crystal.

#Linux on desktop would be more successful if #openSuse was more popular. #Tumbleweed for general use, #Leap for Office-PCs.
Generally I don't understand why other distros don't implement the ability to boot into system snapshots and revert to them easily. It's one of the most useful and user-friendly disaster recovery methods out there for desktop computers.
That said, it's also stable as fuck.

They're outright lying, at least to themselves. You literally have to monitor their RSS feed in case you have to intervene with some major pacman package change. Stuff like that broke my desktop once, had to use a live system to fix it. One reason I changed to OpenSuse Tumbleweed.

Someone with knowledge about #Dosbox here?
Need a hint why this doesn't work. According to the #Novastorm readme I have to set the correct COUNTRY.SYS inside my CONFIG.SYS, which I'd assume translates to dosbox' config "COUNTRY". Doesn't seem to work though.
(The other settings honestly don't seem to get respected either… but the game starts, so dosbox apparently loads it)

Kann ich bestätigen. Sobald Ärzte Doctolib benutzen läuft alles darüber, alle Daten werden dort direkt eingetragen. Selbst Emails und Fax, denn es ist ja schön integriert.
Ich habe es aufgegeben an Doctolib vorbei zu kommen und schiebe stattdessen Hass auf unser System. Vorallem als chronisch kranker Mensch im gesetzlichen 2.-Klasse System hat man da verloren, ohne findest du quasi keine Spezialisten mit Termin. Selbst mit kaum…

The Pi 5 ain't worth the money unless you need the GPIO stuff *and* the performance.
Otherwise either buying an Intel/AMD based Mini-PC for the same price or a used Intel 6000/7000 series Mini-PC for about 60€ is way more cost-efficient.
For the price of a single Pi 5 8gb + SSD w/ HAT + power supply, cooling, case etc. you can get up to 4 of those used Mini-PCs and build a whole cluster.

#TIL by putting sheep wool around your plants in the garden you can protect them against both slugs and droughts!
Slugs simply can't move through or over it (also useful for raised beds in your garden!) and the wool prevents the soil from drying up as quick. And it's fully bio-degradable, of course!

In #Android 13 / #e_OS 2 T, can I somehow disable the weird stretching animation that happens when you hit the end of a website or any other box / list? Where the content of your whole screen gets stretched?
I found a way to disable *all* animations, but that looks awful as well. That stretching effect is a sin against everything that's holy including my eyes and I want it to stop.

Wanted to give #Trackmania 2020 another shot. Now I'm utterly disgusted I even installed it.
These freaking ANIMATED billboards were *everywhere*. The game also tries to make you accept "personalized advertisement" at first start. It's so bad you get outright confused on where to drive as the billboards try to attract your attention.
They also reduced access further to make you subscribe.
