fediverse: any recommendations for readings about the mexican revolution?
preferably english language, but could do shorter works in spanish (eg article length; not books)
I've heard good things about mike duncan's revolutions podcast series, but I struggle with longform audio/video
thx!

this serious eats explainer on toasted sugar is blowing my mind. tldr sugar doesn't melt under heat to liquify and become caramel, instead it's going through thermal decomposition. as a result you can toast sugar without melting it, just at a lower temp. https://www.seriouseats.com/dry-toasted-sugar-granulated-caramel-recipe

Caltrain to my part of town is hard! in past it’d been easy to get the 31 from station and transfer to 28, but they cut the 31 route in the most recent round of cuts and now it doesn’t go past market

from NPR this morning (on radio):
official guidance from the state is to have mailed your vote by mail ballot by wednesday last week due to recent changes in postmark policy for elections snd slowdowns at usps.
if you haven’t mailed your ballot yet:
- go to post office and have them postmark it in front of you
- drop it off in an official ballot drop box
- turn in your ballot tomorrow at polling location and vote in person instead

I feel like in my 20s I assumed I'd be able to google kind of arcane shit forever (eg did us girls play with old time relijun at as220) because of how The Internet was, and didn't bother trying to preserve that knowledge, and wow what a blip in history that (misplaced!) belief represented
