Forget about the TV detector vans. The FCC has announced anyone using a radio receiver will need to get a radio receiver license. The license will be 24 US dollars per year. They also signed a contract with Tesla for 5,000 radio detector vans.
A license will be required for any person receiving a signal between 50 kHz through 300 GHz regardless of service.
The ARRL praised the new legislation which the President signed this morning.

Interesting arguments. I have no problem with the income tax and I have no problem taxing land owned by corporations. I would argue property owned for commercial use / income should be subject to property tax.
I’m not a fan of tax deductions. It’s makes the tax system overly complex and lets the wealthy avoid paying their share.
The tax form should be a post card You made this much, you paid this much and you own us this much. They already know the answer. It’s stupid.

Real estate is the only thing the government can steal after if you’ve already paid for it utilizing the tax system.
Our community uses a tax on electricity to finance all of our road repairs, construction and reconstruction so there are other mechanisms for generating revenue.
It would be interesting to have academia dive into this issue and find ways outside of tariffs and outside of property taxes to finance federal, state, county, township and city expenses.

I was talking to a friend yesterday about the tariffs and the motivation for them. It was his understanding that before the income tax was created on Feb 25 193 (16th amendment) the United States federal government financed its entire budget on tariffs. Well I don’t know if that is true, I certainly intend to delve into it more.
As a side note I am not a fan of property taxes because in my view it’s theft and keeps people poor. Imagine giving your home to your child when you die unencumbered.

Not having the spare income to buy a four hundred dollars fish I decided to pass.
For five years I maintained that tank without fish and occasionally threw in some bleach to prevent an algae growth.
I finally drained the tank and offered it to another friend and he was able to host fresh water fish for years at his apartment until he purchased his own home.

When I got my first apartment a friend offered me their 55 gallon fish tank.
After some basic internet research I decided I wanted to host a salt water tank.
Roughly 55 pounds of salt later I had every thing perfectly setup. Temp, salinity and so one.
I ventured off to a fish store in the Twin Cities called "A World of Fish" and discovered the yellow fish I wanted was four hundred dollars.

Since that time at least a dozen or more participants have died, one got fined 11 thousand dollars and then died and another radio operator originally got a 22 thousand dollar fine, a demotion from extra to technician and a four ban from twenty meters.
I think the DOJ took it to trial and he agreed to pay 11 thousand dollars and he did.

It seems like there are two groups of people in the fediverse, those well off and those in extreme poverty. It seems pretty strange to me. Just pointing it out from observations over the last few years.

Phone phreaks generally hated the telephone company as an institution because they were a rip off. While they loved the technology they hated the corporation. Today I feel the same way about Google and YouTube. As far as I am concerned it’s ok to rip off YouTube, it’s even better to run ad blockers.
So yes, go ahead and rip off Google and YouTube. Your former Bell Telephone company will thank you.
