And, well, there is this aftertaste of trying to be as apolitical as possible, focusing only on the angle of protecting maintainers and nothing else. To be clear, that's a valid angle, but far from the only angle to view AI-assisted contributions from.

On the subject of The Discourse, it does seem like a very minor change to wording around the same principles as before. I don't think that any of the already merged PRs would've been rejected under these changes either, which makes the whole thing moot.
Would love to see that introspection though.

I dunno, but I think Valve pretty much gave up on "open secrets" like that once the number of developers on the platform became unwieldy. If it's visible, it's public.
I remember some devs would "leak" the dates for the next big sale, for example, but then it became absolutely mundane knowledge because it's not really a secret when you share it with thousands of people across the world.

Here's the thing: I could create a bespoke solution for this problem. But bespoke solutions introduce a lot of technical burden. Someone has to maintain it, and it will not necessarily be me.
Custom tools are not that nice for a small team that has to do a lot. Hence why I was wondering if there was a simple VCS-lite tool that we could use instead.

To give you full context, this is for educational materials in gamedev. A course that we want to be resettable on the user end, so they can try again and again. Ideally, we'd want every chapter to be individually resettable, but even a one big controlled reset would be good for now.
Hence we have a copy of all files to override files a student might've (or rather should've) changed.

I think it's a bit harder to formalize the whole thing as it stands right now. Which files are backed up, what changes if any have been done. And perhaps yes, making more snapshots along the way would be beneficial eventually too.
I just don't quite need a full VCS feature-wise, more like linear version history for documents that some OSes provide. (But it needs to be portable and cross-platform.) But I dunno, maybe git is always the answer, if I can strip it down.

There isn’t even a need for deltas and multiple revisions. Just noticing that files have been modified, removed, or added and rolling back on demand to a predefined state.
Currently files are just overridden from a reserved copy, and under the hood even a VCS would do pretty much the same, it just feels rather inelegant.

Anyone know of some FOSS solution to track changes in a set of files and rollback on demand?
It doesn't need to be full-on VCS, but it needs to be portable, small, self-sufficient.

According to Valve, they managed to run pretty much all x86 games (so far) on their new ARM-based PCs thanks to this FOSS project:

This runs together with Proton to seamlessly transcode Windows x86 games for Steam OS on ARM. FOSS is THAT cool!

📅 Today is day 220 of me working on this project (according to commit history, anyway). These balls have been with me the entire journey, they started it!
🔴🟢🟣
Today is also day 4 of me implementing snapping for gamepad/keyboard. I think it's done now!
With pieces specifically the very high frequency of potential points makes me skeptical about the game being playable with a controller. But in practice, it's no so bad! Reasonable scoring and deadzones help.

The idea was that this integrates well with existing systems and allows users, somewhat realistically, access multiple designs from the same pack.
Doesn't look like it works well. So I need to think of another way to introduce multiple designs as one style without reworking everything.

Now I want to add a bunch of vanity designs for balls.
I could add them, each of them, as new piece styles. But that's a lot of styles just for a different ball decal. And that conflicts with the idea of having one foil pack per one style of a piece. Because I want these vanity designs to come in a pack together.
As I don't want to rework a lot of systems just to support this approach, I was trying to come up with a way to have one new style, a vanity style.

That's okay, you don't have a full picture and I'm probably not explaining it well.
There are different types of pieces, balls are but one of them. Each piece type can have a variation in one of well-defined styles: plain, striped, glass. Each style has one spritesheet associated with it, which covers every rotated state, up to 12.
Inside of the game, each available style for each piece corresponds to a unique kind of foil pack. E.g. you have a pack of striped balls.

The way things are set up right now, each unique design of a piece is a unique type, comes with a unique foil pack, requires unique visual identifiers here and there.
These are vanity pieces, they aren't supposed to be used a lot, and when they are, it makes sense to group them, present them as one type of entity.
That's the problem, and for a solution I was trying that ^ But will probably hack it in another way.

Yes, I was going for that effect where you can see one image from the left and another from the right (but somehow, in a sphere it can go up to 6 states).
But it's hard to reference.
I'm trying to solve a game design problem by cramming them together into one type like that, but perhaps that's not a solution that makes sense.

Doing something unorthodox to add multiple decal variations for balls without creating a bunch of new pieces. 6 unique decals with 6 intermediate frames, blending them.
Does this work? And if it does, which variation is better, with gaps or without?

🎓 If you want to move mouse with your gamepad in Godot, things couldn't be simpler than calling `Input.warp_mouse()` with the new position.
Except, there is a caveat! Resulting position is pixel aligned, so the decimal part is lost. Meaning, small joystick movements are ignored, there is a jerk.
Solution is straightforward:
- Accumulate the movement delta every frame.
- Extract the whole number part of the accumulated delta and pass it to `Input.warp_mouse()`.
- Keep the decimal remainder.

Hope you have good time with it! You definitely need to embrace reactionary gameplay to master the game. But on the flip side, there is a an easier difficulty option that gives you a bigger window to react. (But normal difficulty is already fine for my ability.)

I suck at parrying in Dark Souls. I was quickly turned down by Sifu when I learnt how tight the timings are. And I have to say, Clair Obscur, to me, is a masterclass in attack animation readability.
There were maybe 1 or 2 enemies who felt unfair. The rest — I'm actually having fun learning them!
By no means is the game easy though. You do need to learn each enemy type, and there are plenty of them! But it's neat, systemic. You can master it, can be a fair judge of your abilities.

I haven't seen it, but Derek has been in hot waters with this stuff before when he made what pretty much adds up to being a promotional video for a robotaxi company.
