I’m a family doctor, and I join the call by @npub19vn…wk9q in demanding the release of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya who remains in Israeli captivity for over a year. He has been subjected to severe torture. Our medical colleagues have been targeted for doing their jobs - release them all!

Canada must do more. As Canadian healthcare workers we demand Canada acknowledge the genocide in Gaza, and do everything within its power to punish and hold accountable the perpetrators of this genocide.
More info about the Canadian Medical Coalition Against Genocide: We are a coalition of Canadian physicians and health care workers committed to healing, dignity, and the protection of life. These principles compel us to speak out: Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. The targeting of civilians, destruction of healthcare, obstruction of aid, and weaponization of starvation are not isolated tragedies — they are systematic violations of international law rooted in decades of apartheid and occupation. As health workers, we recognize this as the annihilation of the very foundations of health and survival. Canada is not neutral. By continuing military exports and diplomatic protection, the government is complicit in these crimes. Silence in the face of genocide is complicity.
We call on the Government of Canada to:
1. Acknowledge and Act – Recognize the genocide in Gaza and uphold Canada’s Genocide Convention obligations.
2. Ceasefire and Access – Demand an immediate ceasefire, end the siege, and ensure unrestricted humanitarian aid.
3. End Complicity – Impose an arms embargo, suspend trade, and apply sanctions until Israel ends genocidal policies and illegal occupation.
4. Protect Healthcare – Defend medical neutrality and hold accountable those who attack hospitals, patients, and health workers.
5. Ensure Accountability – Investigate and prosecute Canadian institutions and individuals complicit in war crimes.
6. Save Children’s Lives – Evacuate sick and injured children from Gaza through expedited visas and coordinated support.
Genocide is the gravest assault on human health and life. As health care workers and as Canadians, we refuse to remain silent. We demand urgent, concrete action to end Canada’s complicity and uphold its obligations under international law.

Israel has killed an entire generation of Palestinian doctors in Gaza. They were not only the healthcare workers for their people, but they were the medical educators for an entire new generation of Palestinian doctors who are now deprived of their teaching and mentorship.

I don’t know what to say anymore. As doctors, we can’t stop a genocide and we can’t end a famine.
We provided a diagnosis - genocide.
We provided a prescription to end the genocide - for Canada to end its complicity and direct involvement in Israel’s crimes now.
