I built @npub1rw6…8dxw on Electron because it's fast to iterate and has full support for custom protocol handlers. There's no equivalent on other engines and forking/compiling from source is a major pain (I did this for ungoogled chromium on mobile).

It's bullshit that users can't allow web apps to just fetch whatever URL they want and bypass CORS restrictions. Like, just strip any cookies from the request and let me get that data already!

Pride month is over. Back to wrath.

There working on making it possible to use signal desktop without a phone right? Linux phones are getting close to usable these days, too.

I think that's also why they're putting so much effort intk causing a chip shortage. IIRC a bunch of them want to get rid of personal computers and force people to use the cloud.

Youtube removed the ability to sort search results by "recent first" which was the last non-algorithm based way to get results. Now it's all useless BS and clickbait.

New Blog post: I go over decentralized social media protocols like #nostr #ATProtocol and #ActivityPub and compare the tradeoffs between them.

Neat parallels between false confidence in using adderall to try to boost performance and #ai.
tl;dr: You feel more productive but actually aren't

For front end #JavaScript devs that have a bit of framework fatigue: Check out this easy to use "data binding" library: http://rivetsjs.com/docs/guide/
No build step, just a plain old object bound to HTML with custom attributes for conditionals and iteration.

Spent a bit last night looking at the state of client apis for signal and matrix and I get ehy everyone is making new chat protocols instead of connecting to existing stuff.

God I wish. Low key the conservatives would be kicking ass if they didn't get derailed by all the right wing BS. The liberal party seems to be getting closer to what a conservative party would be and eating their lunch.

I think I'm warming up to using local LLMs for helping me code. I don't trust them for large scale code generation but it's started saving me some time in looking up syntax and docs via DuckDuckGo. I still need to look up docs for most of the work I do but not so much for common use cases you'd find on stack overflow.

One way to check is to view the accessibility tree in your browser's devtools. It should show you the same structure a screen reader would see.

Wow! Are there out of the box keyboards with this setup that one could get somehwere? OR is this a "you need to flash custom firmware" situation?

Systems which use neural nets to learn from user actions should expose physical buttons for reinforcement. Like if I'm teaching my machine a new gesture I'd want to tell it when it's doing a good job or messing up according to my personal criteria.

Honestly the only reason I care about #p2p and #localfirst #web stuff is because it gives us practical tools to have nothing but what we have in our pocket and still be able to work with information technology and collaborate with others.
Everything else is just fun extras. :P
It pains me that communities need to either pay a corpo to own all of their shit or deal with complex nerd shit like the cloud to host their own (which is still paying some corpo eventually)

I think my philosophy when making software is that it should work for people with zero money or no bank account / credit card.
I know it's not a popular mindset to be in since money and profit is everything in the tech world.
I think it comes from growing up as a kid with no disposable income or access to anything but my shitty computer.
I'd rather support people with almost nothing than people with latest and greatest tech gizmos and spare cash for subscription services. 😅
