From what I can see, looks to be something in the Aster family, not St. John's Wort, but I couldn't say as to what species are endemic to Orkney

My grandmother had letters that her father had received, written by the parish minister for his grandmother, whom he never actually met. Apparently he did send money to her, though.
I need to see what happened to those - I believe she donated them to one of the local historical societies

I'm making a chocolate delight cake for the first time in over 20 years. It's an old family favorite, I'm pretty sure we had it written on an old 3x5 index card and nobody remembers the origins of the recipe, but it's good enough I thought it deserved to be better known.
It's not really high in cocoa content at all, though I did use bittersweet instead of German chocolate for mine due to availability. The main feature is that you start with a double batch of chocolate cream cheese buttercream frosting, then use half of that as the base for your batter. I've only got two cake pans, which worked fine but basically doubled the bake time.

I generally think of haloing as more of an astigmatism thing, and I suspect that increased difficulty in focusing as we age also contributes to it. Not been enjoying this whole getting old thing so far.
