One would need to think well about the different uses the concept of an endorsement may have. This may be diverse, as in my examples of friendica and the reddit-like platform using it.

Great to read that. I am still digesting Ben's FEP, but I agree that complexity may be a risk here.
As a first thought, I guess it may be important that when such activity is introduced, this goes with some guidance to developers of how to name it in their platform software.
If #Friendica starts using the activity for introducing "True Friendships" and some reddit-like platform puts it under a button "Plus Poster", is that a problem?

If I understand correctly what you mean by "trust relationships", this relates strongly to something I blogged about lately:
All popular platforms I know of in the fediverse offer connection-roles in more or less the same way as X and Instagram do. The role-system adopted by LinkedIn and Facebook offers higher trust relations on top of the simple "follow" model: "connections" and "friends", respectively. (I describe this in detail in the post I link below) I believe this is an important distinction, which may be the reason why Instagram and X are arguably more toxic than Facebook and LinkedIn.

Booo, expressing an opinion only after knowing what we're talking about?!
But no, very good idea. I'm currently writing a slightly more practicel analysis of the roles (friend, follower, followee, mutual), and rules about those roles, that exist in popular platforms. This should facilitate the discussion.

What do you think? Should #mastodon implement friends-like connections too?
I personally tend to think this should be left to other platforms. Mastodon is good at offering a place where you can #toot.
Other platforms may offer other "roles" for people to play; friends, or colleagues, or connection types we haven't thought of enabling yet.
By choosing a set of roles, a platform sets the boundaries for a particular culture to develop. The UX should facilitate that culture, in terms of functionality and vibe.

When in 2000, I played Medal of Honor on a friend's console, I thought: This is how realistic graphics will get. I couldn't imagine they would ever become more realistic (see image).
In 2025, surely some people fall for the AI-generated pictures and video. However, based on my own past experience, I am pretty confident that our perception will keep learning to discriminate real from ever-improving fake for decades to come. Or maybe forever.

I don't get that, apparently, few people understand that Putins objective is not to gain land, but to have influence over/power to suppress Ukraine. Security guearantees are precisely opposing this objective and he will thus never accept them. Only if these guarantees are weak enough they will be accepted.
So, Europe, watch out for the trap: If Putin accepts your security guarantees, they are too weak.
