I installed Debian 12 on a 2017 Acer Travelmate.
Now it is my ninja server, hosting radicale for calendar and contacts, immich for photos, syncthing for cloud storage, also DNS, bitcoin core and lightning (but I didn't open lightning channels yet).

Update on mission "Resurrection Galaxy A50": I failed. 🛑

In my previous post, I was ready for open-heart surgery: Bootloader unlocking, LineageOS (or FreshROM) installation, and saying goodbye to Samsung forever.
The reality? The Galaxy A50 is locked down tighter than Fort Knox. Between OEM locks, the risk of losing VoLTE calls, and procedures requiring shamanic rituals to avoid bricking the device, I had to face the truth:
I was not ready to change the OS. 𝗘𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆? 𝗗𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗼𝗻.
If you can't replace the engine, you can still strip the chassis until it flies. I discovered you don't need to be a cybersecurity wizard to reclaim your privacy. You just need a USB cable and three letters: ADB.
I took the pragmatic (and less destructive) route: Hardcore Debloating.
🔪 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗮𝗿 𝗕𝘂𝗹𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻:
❌ I wiped the Play Store, Google Play Services, Gmail, Chrome, and Maps.
❌ I uprooted the entire pre-installed Facebook and Microsoft ecosystem.
❌ Bixby and its friends were kindly escorted to the door.
✨ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁 (𝟵𝟬% "𝗗𝗲-𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗴𝗹𝗲𝗱"): The phone is the same, yet not the same.
✅ Launcher: Kvaesitso (Open Source, minimal, search-based).
✅ Browser: Fennec + uBlock Origin (Goodbye ads and tracking).
✅ Store: F-Droid + Aurora Store.
✅ Battery: Lasts so long I actually forget where I put the charger.
✅ Speed: Without 40 background processes mining my data, the old A50 runs like a flagship.
The Lesson?
You don't always need to "format everything" to innovate. Sometimes you just need to remove the superfluous.

In a professional setting, oral communication is often the most inefficient and risky method for exchanging information. We worship “soft skills,” but we rarely calculate the exorbitant cost of imprecision.
We rely on the spoken word every day, yet we overlook its intrinsic flaws.

The Flaws of the Spoken Word
Lossy Data Compression:
1. Speakers filter complex thoughts through an increasingly shrinking vocabulary. Listeners then “decompress” that signal through their own biases and recent experiences. The message received is almost always a corrupted version of the one sent.
2. Verbal Inflation (Verbosity): Many use more words than necessary, generating noise and ambiguity. Worse, they repeat the same concept in different ways, creating contradictions and wasting the time of those who already understood. It’s not just inefficiency; it’s a lack of respect for others’ intelligence and time.
3. Lack of Persistence: Conversations are ephemeral. A verbal agreement can be easily forgotten, misrepresented, or disputed, leading to the dreaded “but I thought you said...”
The Alternatives: Formal Languages for High Fidelity
If oral communication is a blunt instrument, formal languages are the scalpel. They are designed for precision and high fidelity.
1. Written Language
Asynchronous, allowing for meticulous thought construction and revision. It creates a permanent, verifiable record, demanding clarity from the author and reducing ambiguity for the reader.
2. Mathematics
E = mc^2 is an immutable truth, understood without ambiguity in every language. There is no margin for interpretation.
3. Programming Languages
So precise they can be executed by a machine. They impose absolute logical consistency.

But for critical information—project requirements, strategic decisions, technical specs, agreements, and promises—we must be more rigorous.
Relying on a chat for a vital task is like using a hammer to drive a screw. It might work, but the result is crude, unreliable, and unprofessional.
Final Thought
I think we all need to learn to communicate with the precision of a programmer, the clarity of a mathematician, and the persistence of a writer.

My "Digital Fortress" has reached full maturity. What started as a hardware recovery experiment on a 2017 Acer laptop is now a mission control for digital sovereignty. 🚀
But the real lesson of this journey isn't about hardware. It’s about the power of Open Source.
Everything I’ve built exists thanks to open, transparent, and verifiable code. It’s the result of thousands of people sharing their knowledge for the benefit of everyone.
This is the polar opposite of the Big Tech model. While corporations design systems to decide what we see or do, Open Source gives us the tools to become the sole owners of our digital lives.
As a famous cypherpunk saying goes: "If you want to change the world, don't protest. Write code!"
Here are the pillars of the Fortress, built on transparency:
✅ Operating System (Debian 12): I stripped away the GUI (GNOME) and went Headless. By removing telemetry and commercial bloat, I reclaimed 1.5GB of RAM and dropped CPU load from 21% to 0.0%. The laptop is now a pure server: cool (39°C), silent, and efficient.
✅ Sovereign Banking (Bitcoin Core & LND): My node has crossed 70% synchronization. I’m currently validating 2024 blocks, mathematically verifying every transaction via Tor. ⛓️‍💥
✅ Privacy Layer (AdGuard & Vaultwarden): I manage my own DNS and passwords in a closed circuit. Thanks to Open Source, my home is tracker-proof, and my keys no longer live on Silicon Valley servers—they reside in an encrypted database on my own 2TB drive.

Hike from Vetriolo (Levico Terme) to Malga Masi (1,747 m above sea level), passing by Marco Martalar's Lupa del Lagorai.
The Lupa del Lagorai is located at 1,600 meters above sea level, in the hamlet of Vetriolo (municipality of Levico Terme, the highest spa town in Europe). Standing 6 meters tall and made from approximately 2,000 pieces of scrap wood, it is a work by sculptor Marco Martalar.
A beautiful trek through the areas devastated by Storm Vaia. The effects of the storm are still visible, but so is the impressive restoration work carried out by the local population.

We could visit the Wolf of Lagorai made by artista Marco Martalar and drink a beer at Malga Masi.
The Lupa del Lagorai (Lagorai Wolf) is located at an altitude of 1,600 meters in the hamlet of Vetriolo (municipality of Levico Terme, the highest spa town in Europe). Standing 6 meters tall and made from approximately 2,000 pieces of scrap wood, it is a work by sculptor Marco Martalar.
A beautiful trek through the areas devastated by Storm Vaia. The effects of the storm are still visible, but so is the tremendous restoration work carried out by the local population.

Is digital privacy a luxury? No, it is an architectural choice.
It’s Boxing Day (Santo Stefano) and, being unable to sit idle, I decided to take back my digital keys. 🗝️
It all started with a paradox: I wanted to change my Wi-Fi password, but I was "held hostage" by my solar panel inverter (no password, no local access, only proprietary cloud).
That’s when I decided I had to become the sole master of my information again. I already had a hunch, but there it is.
Many think that to protect oneself, you have to become a digital troglodyte. Error. The problem isn’t technology, but our competence and the control of the servers on which the data runs.
Investing time in privacy is a civil act.
Because privacy is freedom, and freedom implies individual responsibility. To be free means to stop delegating our identity to third parties.
As a tech enthusiast, I started building my "Digital Fortress" on Debian.
🎯 Why start with DNS, Cloud, and Payments?
Because these are the three faucets from which our most intimate data flows: where we go (DNS), who we are (Cloud), and how we live (Payments).
Here is my plan:
🛡️ Block 1: Sovereignty (Data & Finance)
I turned an old laptop into a home server:
• AdGuard Home (DNS): Browsing filtered at the root and encrypted queries, invisible to the ISP.
• Syncthing (Cloud): P2P synchronization of photos and documents. Files remain under my physical control.
• Bitcoin & LND (Next step): Lightning node for instant and private payments without intermediaries (now I just need to find someone to pay me in Satoshi! 😅).
💰 Cost: ~€250 (Hardware + 2TB SSD). An investment that eliminates subscriptions and surveillance. In reality, I recycled an old laptop that works excellently with Linux Debian.
🧠 Block 2: Private AI (The future with Ollama)
The goal is cognitive independence: running LLMs locally so as not to send thoughts and code to Silicon Valley.
⚠️ Note: This is where things get serious. You need computing power (GPU/RAM). The hardware investment will be significantly higher and the technologies are constantly evolving. We shall see.
In 2026, my goal is to take back my privacy. It is possible and costs little. If we don’t do it, it’s only for convenience... then let’s not complain. 🛡️

The Hidden Costs of Cutting Corners: Understanding Technical and Organizational Debt
In the fast-paced worlds of software development and management consulting, speed is often seen as a competitive advantage. We rush to launch new features, deliver client results, and meet tight deadlines. But what are the hidden costs of these shortcuts?
This is where the concept of "debt" comes in—not financial debt, but something just as impactful: technical debt in software and its parallel, organizational debt, in consulting.
What is Technical Debt?
Ward Cunningham, one of the authors of the Agile Manifesto, first coined the term "technical debt." He described it as the implied cost of rework caused by choosing an easy (limited) solution now instead of using a better approach that would take longer.
Think of it like this: you're building a house and need to install a window. The "right" way is to frame it properly, insulate it, and seal it against the elements. But you're in a hurry, so you just cut a hole and stick the window in. It works for now, but you've just accumulated technical debt. Down the line, you'll have to deal with drafts, leaks, and potentially even structural issues. You'll have to pay back the "debt" with interest, in the form of more complex and costly rework.

Examples of Technical Debt
Poorly written code: Code that is difficult to understand, modify, or debug.
Lack of documentation: Missing or outdated documentation makes it harder for new team members to get up to speed and for existing members to remember how things work.
Insufficient testing: Not writing automated tests might save time initially, but it leads to more bugs and manual testing down the line.
Outdated dependencies: Using old libraries or frameworks can create security vulnerabilities and make it difficult to add new features.
The Industrial Parallel: Organizational Debt
The same principles of technical debt apply to the world of industry and manufacturing, but here we call it organizational debt. This is the accumulation of "quick fixes" and process shortcuts that create drag on a team or organization.
Just like technical debt, organizational debt is often incurred under pressure. A middle manager might create a custom Excel spreadsheet to solve a problem instead of implementing a more robust, scalable solution. A project manager might skip a formal project kickoff meeting to "save time."
Examples of Organizational Debt:
"Hero culture": Relying on a few key individuals to solve all the problems creates bottlenecks and single points of failure.
Lack of standardized processes: When every people on a team uses their own templates and methods, it creates inconsistency and makes collaboration difficult.
Poor communication channels: Relying on ad-hoc emails and hallway conversations instead of a centralized communication plan leads to misunderstandings and missed information.
Insufficient training and onboarding: Throwing new team members into the deep end without proper training leads to mistakes and rework.
The Payback: Why Debt Matters
Both technical and organizational debt have the same outcome: they slow you down. The more debt you accumulate, the more time and energy you spend "servicing" that debt—fixing bugs, reworking deliverables, and dealing with the fallout from poor decisions.
This is the "interest" on your debt, and it can be crippling. It stifles innovation, frustrates team members, and ultimately impacts the bottom line.
How to Manage Your Debt
The goal is not to eliminate all debt. Sometimes, taking on a small amount of debt is a conscious, strategic decision. The key is to manage it effectively.
Acknowledge and track it: Create a "debt backlog" to keep track of all the shortcuts and quick fixes you've implemented.
Make it visible: Make sure the whole team understands the concept of debt and can identify it.
"Pay it down" regularly: Just like with financial debt, you need to make regular "payments." Set aside time in each project or sprint to address items from your debt backlog.
Focus on prevention: The best way to manage debt is to avoid accumulating it in the first place. Invest in good design, clear documentation, and standardized processes.
By understanding and actively managing both technical and organizational debt, you can build more resilient, efficient, and innovative teams—whether you're writing code or advising clients.
