Decided to watch Britannia, had it on DVD for a while, unwatched.
It’s almost hard historical fantasy, in that the fantastical elements are very minor (at least at first). It’s set in an interesting time period, as the Romans invade Britain. I enjoyed S1 it had a lot of cash splashed on it. Zoe Wanamaker seems to be having a ball as Queen Antedia of the Regni.
S2 leans a bit harder into the fantasy. And it seems to dabble with different plots, almost like it doesn’t know where the story is going, which makes it seem like it’s pulled from history (even though from the Druids’ POV little was written from this era). But ultimately weird and engaging.
S3 was ultimately disappointing. Lavishly produced, a mix of dark, camp and fantasy.
It’s watchable, but I felt the fantasy elements came in harder this season and made it a little less engaging. Sophie Okonedo as Hemple, really ups the dark camp. Wanamaker returns, and she’s really engaging.
Stand out is Eleanor Worthington-Cox as Cait, the main character, she feels so genuine and not wanting to be in the situation she’s in.
In fact the whole cast is stellar. The location and set design is also amazing, if some odd choices of quarries used in S1 as locations (as a Doctor Who fan I can spot a nice quarry).
I really loved the setting, and all the different characters, and the stories. It kept twisting and turning. Just ultimately I didn’t enjoy S3, maybe it’s because I knew that was it. It also built up to a big battle (and a lot of foreshadowing) but it didn’t really land for me. #tvseries

Kinda based on a Nigella Lawson recipe, but swapping out pancetta for chorizo. And adding garlic and additional onion. #cooking #dinner

Lamb in the slow cooker, just about done (cooked with red wine, tomatoes and thyme/rosemary).
Rice just about finished.
Pumpkin has another 10 minutes or so in the steamer.
Will do some broccolini in the steamed in the microwave, and some frozen peas as well.
Will finish off the lamb with some sumac and parsley (needs a hit of something citrusy and don’t want to waste a lemon on just a squeeze of juice). #dinner #cooking

Have to go to grandma’s birthday lunch today.
At the same bistro as last year, which has awful acoustics. I’ve never been anywhere that has such oppressive acoustics, the sound from people (loudly) talking seemed to bounce everywhere. And just made everyone louder. Being school holidays isn’t going to help matters either.
But it’s got disabled parking at its rear entrance, so easy for dad who’s bringing her. And a senior’s menu, which grandma doesn’t order from.
At least it’s early, bang on 12. Have it in a text message, so inevitably when I get called by dad saying “why aren’t you here??” I can cite the message (this often happens at Xmas, when he used to call and tell me what time, now I make sure it’s in writing). #Australia

I once met a guy…I think at some social event, and he kept flashing his phone screen to talk about his BMW.
And I was like “uh…okay?”.
Then he asked what I drove, like it was the most important thing. And when he found out is was a a Jeep Wrangler, his face fell so much.
He was asking all these questions about power, how it compared to other people, and I just said “it makes me happy”. And again it was like something broke in his brain. #driving #Australia

@nprofile…gj99 Maybe, it’s been more than 10 years since the last one I think. I think once they have the numbers from this show they’ll work out what to do next year. There’s definitely interest. And there were a lot of people looking at the Chinese manufacturers’ offerings. Lots of people interested in MG’s ute, and GWM Cannon Ultra Hybrid, I had a sit in both, they’re compelling alternatives to the Ford/Toyota/Isuzu options. And there was a lot of people at BYD’s stand.

@nprofile…gj99 It was interesting and *really* busy. I guess, kinda for a day out it was. I’ll be interested to see if it gets run next year and if more manufacturers decide to show off cars. It felt a little like an Asian manufacturer motor show, plus a couple of Euro brands than a “international” motor show that the old ones used to be called (and probably why they didn’t call it an international motor show thus time, just “Melbourne Motor Show”).

I’ve not drunken coke / cola for about 12 years. It was one of those New Year’s resolutions that stuck. Went to only lemonade (clear lemonade, I dunno what the generic term is for it) for a few years at home, only really drink it if I’m out having a meal. I don’t really like a lot of alcohol. I just cannot get into the Star Wars universe. It’s right up my lane, big science fiction universe. Long form stories that aren’t just the movies.
But I just can’t engage with any of it.
Star Trek, love it.
But Star Wars, I can’t suspend my disbelief, can’t relax into watching / enjoying it.
Tried multiple different series from the Star Wars universe, I liked the aesthetic of the Mandalorian, but just could not hook into it.
