But it's simply not true. Linux kernel's accepting slop & rust. Wayland is still & likely forever to be worse than X11 (at the job to be done: building & running applications, sometimes remotely). Systemd is slop & spyware now. Even aside from Linux's traditional incompetences, it's worse than a year ago.
Like, maybe BSD is getting better, tho I have Complaints but much less so. Or Haiku. Slow to the point of stasis.

Readline being under GPL doesn't stop some giant predator, it just annoys the little guy who wants text history without having to rewrite a giant awful curses thing. RMS is the predator here (as in other things).
And it's not new that GPL is useless, the whole v2/v3 thing was because Tivo realized they didn't have to ship their source if you can't compile & run it.

There is a release of "Xanadu" that has a hand-hacked database, no editor, is not actually useful.
I was so enthused as a yout' by the library copy of Computer Lib/Dream Machines, and a few Xanadu articles. But then I figured out it was vaporware after the magazine (Creative or Byte, I'm running a search but it's slow) article explaining & praising it by one collaborator… and then the next issue had an angry letter from Ted Nelson retracting almost everything.

Currently I'm just playing VoxeLibre (I was using Mineclonia, which is faster & smaller but has bugs).
I have another world based on Asuna with a TON of mods for adventuring and decorating. I keep meaning to write a blog post about what all, but I'm gonna update and so haven't done it yet.

So I played some Luanti while listening to podcasts, suddenly pigs start falling from the sky, or rather animal pens 2 floors up.
Apparently lightning hit outside, pens are at ground floor, so the charge carried over 30 blocks away to change some pigs to angry pigmen and set my pens on fire!!! Which took some work to fix, lost many more pigs and some sheep, also oddly on fire.
And one of my dark oaks burned to the ground, but nothing else.
Mean goddamned game sometimes.

Doing some table generation in awk, and is there an easier way to do "all fields n to NF" than this?

I could use printf on the fragments, but the annoyance is that loop, instead of
(string-join (cddr fields) "\t")
or whatever.

Santa came early with my Hyper Mega Tech! Super Pocket Atari. And it's *sweet*.
As usual the 2(?) paddle games, Pong and Tempest, are nearly unplayable, but everything else is good.
50 games, mix of 2600, 5200, 7800, Lynx, and arcade games. Asteroids is arcade, "vector" (in pixels). I *kinda* wish they also had the 2600, 8-bit/5200, 7800 versions with a switch.
UI is smooth, nice arcade music. Menu and you can switch to the loaded Evercade cart (but I don't have one yet).

There's very little point to it. It enables cheating. I've already finished (probably) and you don't have my artistic vision to continue it. I'm indie and doing it for fun, so "sales" aren't a big thing, but it would lower sales.
I do sometimes open source very old games, but the only results of that are a couple of ports/fixes to new OS/engine versions. For some reason several people asked for source for one game engine, but never did anything with it.
