It is now routine for solar farms in Oz (and elsewhere) to have 4 hours of storage of nominal (nameplate) panel capacity. In fact, since actual capacity is +-25% in sunny places, this is in fact equivalent to 12 hours of actual output, i.e., it is "firm".
Which in electricity parlance means it's equivalent to a fossil fuel/nuclear power. And it's CHEAPER. We're on the road to 100% green electricity.
