The real IT global collapse won’t be caused by, say, replicants nuking corpo servers. It will be caused by a little syntax error in AI-generated code that no human will still have the ability and knowledge to identify.
Except maybe Bert, the local old programmer made redundant and who still lives in the corpo basement. But Bert is a wise sad punk and will pretend to know nothing. Thanks Bert.

Many people still don’t get used to fedi infrastructure and dynamics. Some of them in good faith and, huh, sorry mates. Some simply want an audience. Others need an algorithm throwing stuff at them.
I still think losing this people is not a problem. Fedi isn’t forced to “win” in some numerical way. Most of us are here exactly because refused a social race where you’re always losing, no matter how cool and interesting you think to be.
And, well, I also think that this “hard” fedi is intrinsically better than any corpo social network where you’re analyzed, monetized, stripped of any privacy, probably served to the next Nazi algorithm of predictive policing.
Also, now that Nazis actively monitor social network activity looking for “antisocial” behaviors, I’d even refuse to stay in fedi instance federated with mainstream social network. However “positive” this integration is marketed by many gurus here.

I'm pleasantly surprised by Wired this time, dealing with something that isn't necessarily falshy and shiny. Good, good.

This is pure digital neocolonialism. Best parts for me, from an European point of view:
- "Shaping international policy discussions around copyright and AI" [ie: mindwash or pay gullible politicians] "to prevent less innovative countries from imposing their legal regimes on American AI firms and slowing our rate of progress" [how this peasants dare!].
- "Determining whether other countries are restricting American companies’ access to data" [because what's mine is mine and what's yours is also mine]
And of course the smart guys at Google have already supported OpenAI, with another open letter stating - among many silly things - that "Governments should generally not impose regulatory checkpoints on the development of underlying AI models or AI innovation. Some governments are seeking to impose undue bureaucratic burdens on AI development and deployment, oen in ways that would primarily aect U.S. companies".

Friend passed an industry report to ChatGPT to have it summarized, with a specific focus on data related to his country. In the summary, ChatGPT hallucinated and used fake data that weren't even mentioned in the report, with conclusions that were the exact opposite of what the report said.
Friend "told" ChatGPT of the error. Answer: "You're right! I shouldn't have used fake data. Now I'll write a new text using just the report data. Give me a moment".
Oh, yes. Let's use tools like ChatGPT to revolutionize any kind of school, tell people that learning to program is useless, use AI for "dumb" tasks. But you cannot build anything solid when the foundations are inherently broken.
