level 0: check phone notifications
level 1: scroll nostr (all follows)

level 3 (ultra bored): scroll mastodon follows, scroll nostr (global/popular)
legendary boredom level: scroll lemmy all communities, scroll mastodon (global), actually go do something productive

honestly going from a rasberry pi to a proper desktop CPU might give you enough speed
especially with a small model
people usually reccomend used 3090s for VRAM, but i've seen a few videos lately about compelling intel GPU (non-integrated) options
prices are insane these days because of the shortages, so you may just want to wait a while (though, there's always cloud GPU compute too)

slow is typically due to your hardware
run on a GPU, if possible
personally i prefer gemma over the llama models (so far), you may want to check them out
usually, bigger/newer model = more intelligent
however, they get slower with size, try to find one that fits in VRAM

something i used to believe when i was younger is that we can learn from evil, to serve the purposes of good

- power backup/UPS
- cooling/quiet fans (this thing will probably be on all the time, so you want the volume to be acceptable)

i reccomend getting an ssd for each node, plus a small ssd to boot off of (depending on cost you could mix it up a bit, but that's the ideal setup)
hard drives will not really work for running nodes (technically it's possible, but i couldn't get it to work)
as for the media server, you can use a hard drive instead of a ssd, i believe it works well, even for 4k (this is what i do)
the local AI is a bit trickier, you can either get a GPU with lots of VRAM, or you can run models on CPU on RAM (which is *considerably* slower)
admittedly, i don't know much about mesh ai
if you get a GPU, you can also use it to power your media server transcoding
