i don't think ice should arrest anyone because i think ice should be abolished and fucking trust me when i say that based on my my many visits to the tacoma detention center that once you're in there they absolutely one THOUSAND percent treat indians like shit. my colleague (we are deportation defense attorneys) had an indian client out of tacoma and i PROMISE he was treated horribly. i swear on my life that he was treated just as badly as my Guatemalan and Mexican detained clients. kept in the same absolutely miserable horrible conditions of medical neglect and denial of language access and inedible food etc etc etc.
if that makes you feel better, we're not on the same team

If it makes you feel any better, I’m on multiple deportation defense listservs where people share their immigration court experiences and I have not heard of observers being arrested or brutalized unless they tried to prevent arrest (or were perceived as getting in the way) or were high profile in some way or themselves actually “subject to ICE jurisdiction” (e.g., undocumented) recently. Last “pure” observer arrest without those complicating factors I heard about was in May. Obviously seeming to be preventing arrest is squishy. Hope everything goes okay for your partner and the asylum-seeker & that neither of them is arrested.
