@nprofile…8fvp Hmm, this is two problems.
1. Pachli should not be showing the translation menu option on fedifreu.de because the server can't translate. That's a Pachli bug, I've noted it at https://github.com/pachli/pachli-android/issues/2173. Thanks for raising this.
2. The 503 error from anoxinon means the server is rejecting the translation request. That's definitely a problem that @nprofile…2vgg will need to investigate (https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTTP/Reference/Status/503)

@nprofile…8fvp Getting back to your original question -- if translation is failing on anoxinon.de Pachli should show an error message at the bottom of the screen when that happens. What does that say / can you send a screenshot? That will help understand the problem.

@nprofile…8fvp That's absolutely fine. As the blog post notes:
> While the library is free to use it is not open source. As some Pachli users may want to avoid proprietary libraries this feature is not present on Pachli installed from F-Droid or GitHub. If this is you then you can skip the rest of this section.
That's why Pachli gives you the choice of where to install from.
To forestall the next question: I was unable to find an open source library with similar functionality that worked reliably.

@nprofile…8fvp @nprofile…2vgg What error does Pachli report with your social.anoxinon.de account?
https://fedifreu.de (if that's the other server you mean) doesn't support server-side translation. Tusky doesn't support on-device translation, so if you want to use translation on fedifreu.de you'll need to use Pachli's on-device translation support (https://pachli.app/pachli/2025/08/28/2.16.0-release.html#support-on-device-translation-if-installed-from-google-play, only available if Pachli is installed from Google Play).

If "How to translate" is set to "Server only" it's possible your server is having an issue with their translation service. /cc @nprofile…2vgg in case they need to investigate.

The latest #Pachli Current (3.4.0+29a96332) is rolling out now with some notification improvements
1. Notifications about a post will always include the "action bar" under the post so you can reply, bookmark, quote, etc directly from the notifications view.
2. #accessible #talkback actions have been added, and the descriptions have been improved to provide a better experience.

@nprofile…su47 There's a "Load newest posts" item in the menu. There's a preference you can change that makes that the default behaviour when you tap a tab.

#Pachli Current is rolling out the new media description UI for feedback.
Since the last screenshot some of the padding has been tightened up and the colours toned down a little. The image size adjusts to the device size to leave enough room for writing the caption.
Also, some servers report the actual max number of characters you can put in the description. If it's available that's now used, instead of being fixed to 1,500.
Feedback (after you've tried it in Pachli Current) welcomed.

@nprofile…n6sp It's marginally narrower, because of the image next to it. There's some padding around the text that can probably be removed, and the design still feels a bit too busy -- the information:pixel ratio in the design feels too low.

If you ignore the scrolling jankiness (that's trying to use a mouse to drag-scroll in an emulator) and UI oddity (the grey line appearing and disappearing)...
... then this is still a dumb idea, right? No one would legitimately want to scroll through their timeline like this, would they?
