I like the term "Load-bearing shell scripts." If it starts getting past 20 lines and you're using it for CI/deployment/tests/etc. you should replace bash/sh/zsh with something else.
Why the Python hate? Python3 is pretty stable, and even has type hinting. Virtual environments and uv are your friends. Although at that point it's no longer a simple shell script, but if you really don't want to use a venv, almost every linux distro has the major libraries you need (requests and such) in the package manager.

Today someone will say that's AI. I remember. I don't care about ICE deporting criminals; that's fine and they're honestly not even deporting that many. It's not enough to be significant. I don't use Gapps. I don't even use microG. I don't have any social media. I don't play any mobile games (I have Star Realms installed/synced but haven't played in months). I use the camera, music, podcasts and very rarely, Here maps/navigation.
I still have a felling even with all my scale-down and customization, it might run like shit with 4GB of ram because that's just how insane base-Android has gotten.
I'd look at Linux offerings, but I really like the Camera on the 1 V and how the Sony camera app will just work without any GServices.

I'll try to take a look tomorrow. Kinda long, but curious.
There is a lot of digital collection out there. I spot more license plate readers all the time (both Flock and others). Sure not all of the datasets are well connected ... that just means most of them are wrong. How many background checks turn up two unrelated people who happen to have the same name? The LLMs/AI are going to make this matching even worse.
But one cannot ignore the large data collection by big government contractors like Palentir, Oracle, et. al. That information will come together; it's probably already getting packaged together, with promises of high AI-accuracy ... how long until the first LLM "hallucination" induced swatting?

Well I've had some caffeine and I'm probably going to stay up too late tonight, so I might as well start a build log. I put this up early and asked about it in the #mpv IRC chat room:

First image is from my Ergodox-layout keyboard. Second is from a traditional 75% layout keyboard. Both from a cold start / no-warmup.
It took me weeks to get over 15 wpm when I first got an orthlinear (ergodox) keyboard. I was worried I'd get so use to it I'd look like a moron typing 10wpm on a standard staggered layout, but it looks like I've been able to maintain the same typing skill on both.
Normal keyboards feel so damn cramped now though 😅.

It's interesting how on Lotus Eaters, Carl said he understands blocking porn for children, but then goes on about how terrible and awful the Online Safety Act is. I'm like, "can you not see the first attitude led to the second?"
It's the parents responsibility to deal with porn and their children. Any people might be like, "Well they can see it on other mobile devices," "parents cannot monitor 24/7," .. so? Parents can put in blocks on their routers, and tell their kids, "Hey porn is bad. Everyone watches it. Here is why _I_ try to avoid it and why it's bad." So they attempt to instill value and follow it themselves (if they have those values. If not, they can tell their kids "I don't care about porn, do what you want").
I put Carl up there with Louise Perry style anti-libertarian conservatives who don't really understand their base policies ideas can't be implemented without bad consequences downstream.
I wonder if anyone is going to go Lucy Connolly on Carl for this little clip. I doubt it, because his popularity might create a larger backlash since he's more well known/popular.

I can see if your morbidly obese, running might not be a good start. But you can still walk and jog on the treadmill while getting the weight down with diet. (Diet has a bigger impact than exercise).
200 lbs doesn't seem too heavy to run, or at least start light jogs on the treadmill for a mile at a time to start and work up .. unless you're like 4"10 or something.

For PS5 games, if an Internet connection is required, it's written on the case. I actually missed it when I bought Hogwarts Legacy and hated I couldn't fucking return it once opened:

..and they do contain system updates. Expedition 33 had a full firmware update on disc that you had to install and most Nintendo cartridges do get packaged with the minimum OS firmware they are developed on.
I really should have bought 2x PS5s and just left one in the closet. The oldest ones can be partially hacked, but there's still no Hypervisor exploit.

There's something called the Mig cartridge which can hold a copy of the game and the unique cert (every cartridge has an individual unique certificate). The base hardware is pretty cheap and you can probably make a Mig-based cart with a printed label that looks real for under $20. There were people predicting this would happen over a year ago.
There really needs to be a class action on Nintendo. I personally don't even plug consoles into the Internet at all (mostly in the hopes I can hack them with future exploits, like my PS4) and people really need to stop buying carts that require an Internet connection and pay for more physical media. But normal people don't get those concerns.

Most of my friends do not know what the term "LLM" is. Some have gone to "AI courses" at their schools and don't understand the core mechanics that all these chatbots have in their models is just a massive lists of parts of words, with floating point values to ever other part of a word. That's it. Nothing else. No one is teaching the very basics of what the models are. They literally only get things "right" by accident and people keep asking "Grock is this true" no matter how many times it obviously generates random words that are verifiably untrue.
