I don't talk about what I actually do very much but today's a milestone for my (somewhat) Daily Podcast - TOMMW.
I have a 2 mile loop that I try to walk every morning. I walk for the 1st mile, then turn on a voice recorder and talk for the 2nd.
When I get home, I post the file, mostly unedited. I talk about writing, reading, cooking.
Whatever.
#today marks episode 2500.
That's 5000 miles walked since 2011.
Tomorrow we start the next 5000 - 2 miles at a time

A new day. A new chance to succeed.
My brain itches this morning.
Yawning, I'm setting out in the day but dragging my feet.
Also wanting to get things going, whatever that means. I'm feeling like I want to go somewhere. Do something new.
I need to get groceries before the weekend. I want to dig into my game some more.
I want my next book done, but I keep putting off the doing.
It makes my brain itch.
Just not enough to scratch it.

A new day. A new chance to succeed.
Two steps forward. One step back.
Some see that as a setback.
I see it as a rich opportunity.
Not only do I get to re-examine that prior step for details I might have missed. I also get to pick what might be a better choice going forward based on better information.
With greater insight comes greater possibilities.
It's not a setback.
It's learning.

Generally "finding the story"
I usually start with a setting, some characters, and something that just happened.
I start writing what happens next.
The story ends when there's nothing that happens next.
Some of those stories are *really* short.
Given that I'm a novelist, that's often a problem. 🤪

I never developed it.
When they finally divorced, my first thought was "Thank God."
Of course, I joined the military at 17 to escape them and avoid the draft. They were still married then.

I think fluency in the vernacular plays a role.
For many - especially here - the nuance of virtual spaces can get lost. Each space has its own set of mores and they drift over time, sometimes becoming inscrutable.
Do I respond to a general "hello, world" greeting?
How do I do that?
Should I answer?
Will a "like" do?
Maybe I should "boost?"
Not knowing how to respond can result in no response.
I'm not saying that's the whole thing but I think it plays a part

About 1% of the people I follow post at least daily with content that stays here.
About 10% want me to read their blog posts. If they're interesting, I add them to my RSS reader. (Most aren't)
At least 50% want me to click their links and read something on Medium or Substack (not happening).
Some vanishingly few people have conversations here, a sin I'm also guilty of as well.

I like to think mine are written with the sparkling wit and wisdom of Oscar Wilde or the sarcastic inside of Dorothy Parker.
I have to admit they probably more closely resemble the deadpan delivery of a Steven Wright wannabee monologue at open mic night at Huck Yuck's Chinese Buffet

I have a Tp-Link wireless dongle that does 150mbps. It's recognized by my current Linux (Mint 21.2).
Not a *great* connection but much better than 0mpbs.
I would have thought any of the ASUS dongles would work.

The juggling, rough and ragged as it has been for the last few weeks, continues.
These periods happen. Sometimes the gaps between ending one project and starting another become hard to bridge. Distractions abound and hyperfocus goes from being a superpower to kryptonite.
I've been here so many times before. The answer is "This too shall pass, if only I let it."

The juggling has become ragged, sloppy. Routines start but fall apart quickly. Frustrating.
The vehicle that got me here has bogged down and stopped.
Maybe it needs fuel.
Maybe an overhaul.
or just a metaphorical portage to get over the rough patch.

Another day. Another chance to succeed.
I try not to tense up in the morning before anything has happened.
It's a problem when a few days go by that didn't exactly go the way I'd hoped. Too many bobbles. Too many drops. A vague sense of "that could have gone better" at the end of the day.
Picking at yesterday like a scab just adds more work to today.
I can't do anything about it except take a deep breath and focus on the moment.
