yeah, I had teachers with basic-ass HTML pages to host course info and work, but that was also mostly CS classes.
But we could have self hosted... Idk, WordPress but better.

It is hard to say what to do about things like the #Canvas hack and centralizing resources in one place. It is constantly a mental block for me on "yeah, *I* host my stuff elseware and have local copies" vs. knowing that I can't expect every average teacher to also do that.
The more we rely on tools like this for the sake of ease, the less technology literate the average person becomes.
But how much tech literacy should be the baseline?

I had not realized that campus had an AI "art" exhibit, and there was a student protest afterwards, which included marking up this wall with messages. I am really happy with our students. :)

I wish people would just freaking mask when sick. There were so many wet coughs during our travels. Both for adults and kids like 6+ years old, I know they can do it.

And I know this is an anxiety thing but it'd be nice if the airplane long haul flights gave some kind of estimation of meal times.
I would have some kind of "in-air clock", maybe a count up from when flight starts(?) and show that it'd be "breakfast - between 2 and 3 hrs" and so on.
Or messages like "now serving specialty meals" for veg / people with allergies. I had been afraid I slept through meal service when I saw them taking trays to people.

Here's what I would do: Hire me, a 130 WPM typist, to type out the announcements (plus could have a "sound board" style selection menu for common templates), enter into system, then have THAT use Text to Speech AND display it to a screen.
There are already some pre-recorded messages in use at gates, but it'd be nice to SEE THE MESSAGES.

After thinking about this, I noticed Kansas City's new terminal has a message screen, though I would make the text bright white on dark blue and make the font larger. But there needs to be accessibility for Deaf people and people with audio processing issues!!

OK I think what would be a HUGE improvement, both for accessibility but for everyone else, are MONITORS all over that display the messages.
In JFK baggage claim, I couldn't tell WTF the lady was saying over the speaker. There should be tons of information monitors with big text so you can see important announcements.

I've been thinking of making an open source farming sim like Stardew Valley/etc. but could continue being expanded on and including more life sim aspects over time. I just don't have time. 🫠
IDK if it's any more cost effective but PS4 and PS5 have streaming support built in, and those can be cheaper than a gaming PC, albeit not all games are on those. But I streamed Death Stranding 2 and other games that way.

if you have ADHD like me you can watch it and then when you eventually play the game in a year or two you'll have forgotten all of it! Sometimes I'll watch a video essay on "why (game) is good" to figure out if it's worth my time, then eventually play it.
But if that doesn't work, maybe you can watch the game you want, perhaps you can try a sequel later? Or enjoy the story in LP form and enjoy the gameplay yourself later?

Since the spring semester is pretty busy, I think I'll pick up #Cynscape as my next game. I had some plans from a couple of years ago to make a terminal-based game based inside a (faux) MMORPG, kind of inspired by Shadow of Yserbius and the feeling of being new in an MMORPG.
My goal is to make it entirely as a terminal-based game, just pure C++, so I can work on it from ~anywhere~. :)

Maybe I should just build onto some game seasonally; Christmas Horse is every Nov-Dec, maybe I should have a summer June-July game (usually only have 2 classes I'm teaching in the summer instead of 4), and then some other game for for Jan-Feb-Mar-Apr-May spring semester and Aug-Sept-Oct...
(A) Jan-May: Terminal game?
(B) Jun-July: Playdate game?
(C) Aug-Oct: Visual Novel game?

I used Avast on this person's computer and it did a scan and showed some things to resolve, but it won't let me "resolve" it without the computer having access to the internet... -_-

Been wanting to play thru Haven again, but would be nice to play thru it with my cousin, who never finished it the first time around.
Also they've made an update where you can choose the gender of both the protags, so you can flip their genders, make 'em lesbians, make 'em gay. :)
The soundtrack is also really freaking good.

I'm thinking that for the new year I'll focus for a bit on making pure terminal-based experimental games with rudimentary graphics. Maybe something survivaley, maybe something dungeon crawley, IDK yet.
But since I have near unlimited access to a terminal, vs. the time I have access to my own laptop, it just makes sense to do terminal gamedev since I can do it *any time*, fill up idle time while at work and such.

I don't have to go do stuff today until like 2 pm but my brain is like "NO GAMEDEV, NEED WHOLE DAY TO MYSELF!!!" and this is the biggest obstacle to getting shit done. Even though days where I do like an hour of gamedev in the morning I get so much done.
Anyway I'm gonna take a nap. 😅

Before getting into any of the coding I start off by sketching the UI for my game and refining it. Then I make graphics for the actual size of the elements, then save those images separately and build the UI in the code.
