Good point, and true there are few reproducible apps.
Would be nice to tag a version (as per Software Applications NIP) against which the latest analysis was run, rather than a git commit.
These reports also contribute to reputation to the keystore/certificate signing the APK so they help anyway.

Someone is constantly releasing updates to an app.
It's cool too see how frictionless app publishing can be, on the other hand they live in Latest Releases which takes space away from other projects.
We're going to move away from this dumb REQ approach and work on a smarter feed for discovering new stuff.

@nprofile…gnen I found the issue. You are not bumping the version code, so Android thinks it's the same version. "1.5.0" means nothing, it's the 2001 that counts.
We may put a guard for this in zsp in the future, but this is standard Android dev.

Love this idea but it's on the app developer and Amber side.
Zapstore can help with app stacks, unfortunately can't avoid per-app install confirmations enforced by the OS.
Having a one-tap install experience would be wonderful, including a "restore my apps" on a new device just with a Nostr sign in.

You can now swipe left on those apps to unmanage (prevent Zapstore from checking for updates)

Over the past week I have also been working on a completely new codebase for the Zapstore app, in pure Kotlin.
(A recurrent issue with the current Flutter app is the boilerplate/overhead to interact with native features.)
Things require less code and feel significantly faster, but to be fair it has 10% of the features so far. Promising option for Zapstore v2.

Signal started marking their releases as "pre-release" on Github: https://github.com/signalapp/Signal-Android/releases
Reason why those are not showing up as latest on Zapstore.
We used to fetch pre-releases, at that time a Termux pre-release screwed up lots of setups.
Pulling pre-releases then needs to be evaluated on a per-project basis, this is hard.

After today's drama there's a clear takeaway:
Apps are not shitposts, even if both are carried over the same protocol.
Catalogs are responsible for the apps they publish, and the well-functioning web-of-trust check and warning was not as useful. People just don't pay that much attention and that's a data point, not a complaint on my side.
Architecting Zapstore around communities, who own these catalogs, is the way forward for software distribution. I am more sure than ever.
The Zapstore software:
- provides a great default community
- surfaces communities/catalogs people in their WoT are using, and allows easy community management
- provides credible exit rather (permissionless at the catalog level, not the app level)

Important clarification:
While the UX is confusing, this is not a catastrophe as it may have sounded.
The word "download" is ambiguous. This posed no risk whatsoever to current Wisp users who wanted to *update*. Android protects you from APKs signed by a different developer certificate.
However, there was a risk for new *installs* but:
- users would have noticed this app did NOT come from @nprofile…tkue but instead from a repository "github.com/captain-stacks/wisp" very clearly displayed in the UI.
Moreover this appared to be an auto-indexed app added by mistake by a nostr user, no malicious code.
That said thank you utxo for sounding the alarm, now this critical bug has been fixed.
Just keep in mind forks will appear and this is EXACTLY my thesis of why catalogs need to be protected.
Striking the balance between permissionless and safe, is fucking hard.

If you see "app no longer available" it means you are on an old version of Zapstore.
You need to manually find "Zapstore" (because of a bug), access the app detail screen and only then an update will show. Update right away.

Attention everyone!
We need to complete the migration to the new NIP (the nostr spec we use). If you don't want to start missing apps:
Update to latest Zapstore 1.0.0+ if you haven't yet.
Developers use zsp 0.4.4+ for publishing ideally. At the very minimum zsp 0.3.4.
(If possible, developers also link your keystore! zsp identity --link-key)
We're a small team and can't afford a smoother transition. We're doing our best but those who don't update by April 21st DEADLINE will be left out.

So, the bug is related to your app using different identifiers in metadata (`com.traveltelly.app`) than in the APK manifest (`com.traveltelly.twa`)
We should be catching this in Zapstore but if you want to resolve it faster, fix that.
What are you using to publish it? zsp definitely extracts the correct metadata for me.
