Even more fun, we had Texas-level lightning last night, which is very unusual for this area (although I guess ‘usual’ is meaningless now). I watched it for about an hour & it seemed very close. 1. Sat in the sun & watched mom, dad & 2 very energetic & agile junior squirrels frolic & eat peanuts. (Not sure when “cute squirrels” become “rodent infestation,” though.) Also found “my” hummingbird asleep on the feeder, & three varieties of butterflies visited today.
2. A few days of wet weather are on their way — always good news in NorCal.
3. I dozed off after the above No. 2 item, so No. 3 will be, “accidental afternoon nap.” 🤣)

1. Watched different parts of Easter Vigil masses from Calif, Sydney, Manhattan & Wash DC. My liturgy cup runneth over & I ♥️ YouTube.
2. Honey-dos done along with a chatty visit with my grandson, who also tactfully discouraged a brunch invitation so I wouldn’t feel obligated to go.
3. Donated my faithful & reliable 1997 car today to a disabled veterans’ group. Hard to see it sail away atop a tow truck, but the irrepressible twins made me laugh-by-text the whole time. Farewell car registration, insurance, maintenance, gas, and recent scaredy-catness driving.

Anecdotally, in the Sacramento Valley, spring blooms have been at least a month earlier than “normal,” and a week earlier than 2025 (which was 3 weeks early). The normal I’m referencing was roughly 2001-2023, looking at Bradford pear trees, tulip trees, & roses. I’ve got blossoms on oleanders now which are not usually seen until late May. Bees & butterflies are here earlier, too , and in greater numbers than the past two years.

With the level of institutional lying rising daily, it occurred to me that the sworn/affirmed statement made by every person testifying in every US court action (“…to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth…”) should be added to every oath of office or position of service, and that this portion of their oath be actionable as criminal when broken.
The first official actions 45/47 performed were his oaths of Office — immediate lies. What we’re seeing as governmental policy over ICE actions (and Venezuela & personal data capture & use, etc.) are officially sanctioned lies.
There is no democracy, no Republic, no gov’t without the TRUTH.

I dunno about anyone else, but with the lack of rigorous food inspections as in days of yore, I’m not going back to (nor doubling) my former meat and dairy intake.
As an aside, ground beef in a mid-range NorCal chain sells for $9-13 per lb. Frozen halibut is $27.95 for two 6-oz filets. Whole milk is $3.48-7.49 for a half-gallon.
Maybe Kennedy can afford that; I can’t.

1. Fun afternoon & dinner yesterday with my grandson.
2. I raided my library of Thomas Merton books last Friday and have re-read (for the umpteenth time) two so far. Fabulous writer; inspired theologian!
3. Pretty sure I’m going to be allowed to skip everyone’s Thanksgiving dinner this year, without penalty. 😬 (I see halibut & a yam in my future…)

1. Waking up to rain (real, not YouTube) is delicious!
2. Actually sleeping long enough to wake up cheerful is also wonderful. My mood is directly proportional to the minutes of 💤💤 I get.
3. Working on a Procreate painting of Big Sur & “drifted off with the fairies” for 3 hours — the same trance I used to experience while writing. (3 hours = 1 rocky cliff. The Big Sur coast is a marathon!)
4. Bonus: my son filmed & texted a video of the roads leading up to & through his rural-ish NC neighborhood — very beautiful & very autumnal.

1. Sat in the sunshine today and watched the squirrels, adult jays, hummingbirds, and assorted little birds enjoy their afternoon.
2. Clean house, clean sheets — grateful that I have excellent help.

(Pic below) This pair of gorgeous albatrosses have already mated since their return to Pukekura, NZ, & the 2025 cam chick is more than halfway to South America (3600+ miles already) — plus, the popular eagle cam couples across the U.S. are nesting. There’s a lot of hope & enthusiasm going around since 10/18. Organizers & involved, committed people are strategizing the most effective ways to forge ahead to save our Republic.
There are many complex factors that got us into this alarming mess — including many that we can’t control.
One thing we can drastically improve,
One effort we can ALL work for,
Is REGISTERING NEW VOTERS AND GETTING OUT THE VOTE!
🚨Voter turnout hasn’t exceeded 63% in over 100 years. Midterms average under 40%. These are disgraceful stats but are also something we can work on.
🚨#NoKings MUST include Registering and #GOTV in future efforts, or this will all be both a wasted effort & a disaster for the nation.

1. All the trees and giant shrubs are in motion today as a weather system sneaks down from the north; my house feels cozy & safe. Rain expected soon, if luck holds.
2. Going to make chicken & wild rice soup later…yum. 🥣
3. Binging the UK version of ”Professor T” on PBS. Not as wacky as the older Belgian version but excellent nevertheless. (I don’t miss you, HULU!)

I lived in the Salinas Valley for 45 years (“The Salad Bowl Of The Nation”).
Good luck to 47’s regime if they think lowering wages for foreign ag workers will incentivize ANY “homegrown” laborers to work in the fields under conditions endemic to the job.
Also, good luck to American veggie eaters who want fresh produce. Supplies are dwindling and prices are beyond belief, even in CA, where refrigerated shipping costs are minimal. (I tried 3 stores last week in Sacramento and there was no romaine or leaf lettuce, and tomatoes & avocados were $2 each.)
AND…every business in every town where agriculture is the primary industry will soon be struggling. Retail & service businesses all depend on that foundation of growing/harvesting/shipping.
He’s too stupid to make the connection between deporting workers & a failing economy. This move will be the pinnacle of FAFO.

3. Finished the digital (Procreate) painting of Tibetan prayer flags. (The source was an uncredited East Asian newspaper pic, which turned out to be AI, so I figure my copy with artistic changes cancels out both the AI evil and plagiarism. 😝)

3. I emailed Procreate support last week about a bug in their recent upgrade, & in her reply today the CSR said “she is sad” that the problem impacted me. The company is in Tasmania & now I’m more hooked than ever on that part of our world! She also helped resolve the issue. 😬

1. This year’s Northern Royal albatross has fledged successfully. She was one of the more entertaining & vocal of the chicks I’ve watched over five years via that cam — and was definitely daddy’s girl. Next hatch will be the end of January.
2. Made some art & wrote a letter for a celebratory book being compiled for a good friend’s birthday.
3. Unexpected visit from my g’daughter, who is so much fun to talk with — another gifted Aquarian! ♒️

1. My last well-intentioned summer visitor has departed (to Paris!), and I finally feel unencumbered, able to breathe, free.
2. My key lime tree has begun to flower & fruit, even after 25 years in the same container. 🍋‍🟩
3. A few of the NZ albatross chicks have already fledged, and the Royal cam chick is getting close, with long sessions of practice hop & hover in the gusty spring winds (40-55 knots). She is seen on the left below, greeting dad who has come to feed her.

1. Vagabond son & DIL flew into town for a quick visit, & there will be family gatherings with grandkids & in-laws. 🎈🥳
2. So grateful for texting! Even tho’ they both live across country, my twins & I stay connected with daily (very funny & rude) texts.
3. After a hiatus, I’ve returned to immersion in fascinating geology videos from Prof. Nick Zentner & others on YouTube. (I wish I’d known I loved this science in college!)
4. Bonus: I’ve not done much painting in watercolor, but had fun with this (not AI, done with Procreate from a tutorial).
