If you like birds, particularly the vulture kind, you will enjoy this live webcam from a Bearded vulture (known also as a Lammergeier) nest. The chick is a couple of weeks old now, I first started when there was just an egg being incubated by the parents. I check in a few times a day. Fascinating stuff.

Awe this always brings a smile to my face. When Khumbu went camping in the Sierra Nevada mountains for 4 days in 2013, clever husky he was, sent this message :-
"Dear Hu'mum, having a good time. Saved everybody last night from a fox during a storm. In trouble today cos I ran away. Eating clients food. No more dog biscuits please. See you soon. Love Khumbu"

Yesterday I took a trip down memory lane going for a ride in my Dad's neighbours 1938 Riley Lynx. He brought it for half a crown. Only 60 remain in the world! As kids we used to wait for him to return from work and ask to go for a ride in the car. Nine years ago I visited the Riley as the neighbour was restoring it after a long time off the road. We spoke about the fun times and how it would be wonderful to go for a ride again. Today we did just that.

Cypripedium calceolus is a Lady's slipper orchid which happened to be flowering while we were on a recent trip to the Pyrenees and we had the privilege of seeing this rare orchid. What an absolute beauty ❤️ In Spain it is only found in Aragon and Catalonia. The wonderful and very vocal Southern Lapwing, possibly the Patagonian subspeices (chilensis/fretensis)? I need someone who knows more than I do to confirm or disagree with that. I like how this shot shows the spur on the wing just pointing through the back chest feathers. These can be used defending it's young or territory. Quite the feisty bird 💪

We had an amazing encounter with a Bearded vulture (Lammergeier) yesterday in the Sierra Nevada mountains. Of course I had the small point & press camera rather than my usual birding lens and camera. The sky was awful for bird photography. But what mattered was the encounter. It's always so special when an unexpected wildlife encounter happens.

Where in the world am I? It certainly doesn't feel like Southern Spain, in particular Andalucia. We have gone from autumn to winter in the blink of an eye. The Sierra Nevada mountains are looking quite splendid in it's first winter outfit.
