Random idea germinating during #jsm2024 StatEd talks:
What if we scored student work like Olympic gymnastics, with a separate "difficulty" and "execution" score?
I feel like the standard "points off for some thing wrong" grading style discourages trying newer or more complex things, especially in coding.
I would love to see the student who *mostly* executes a deeper analysis get a better grade than one who *perfectly* excutes a very basic one.
Has anyone tried something like this? 🤔

Secondly, let's talk social media.
Yes, the ruining of the birdsite was a blow. But the #rstats community is so much more than one app.
Here on fosstodon, I feel more tight-knit; my timeline is a lot more "pure" to the people and things I care about.
Over on LinkedIn, I'm finding it much easier to expand my network, meet new folks, and encounter more longform posts with valuable info.
We are still out here, people!!!!

First of all, the tidyverse is still giving us so many gifts. (See examples in the original quoted convo.)
Also, hello, tidymodels?????? Absolute game changer IMHO and still rapidly expanding.
And Posit brings gifts to R users even lost name change. Quarto is absolutely peerless, I am stoked every single day I use it. Positron - I only have early thoughts but I think we should be VERY hyped.

I missed this discussion last week (busy getting married etc) but I want to chime in now if that's okay.
A lot of us feel nostalgia for the "golden era" of #rstats - the tidyverse was solidifying, RStudio was gifting us new tools, Twitter was popping off, R4.0 was being released.
I feel that too, but I also want us Old Hats to remember not to make the mistake of thinking our first "special" experience is the only one. There is a lot to be excited about!

Update: This only happens if the .Rproj was created *after* opening up Thing in Positron.
If it was already there - or if you close and reopen Thing in Positron - then here::here() finds Parent as it would in RStudio.

Small update on this: liking Positron more than I expected, as an RStudio purist.
Deal-breaker for now is no inline results in qmd. (I know it’s coming eventually though.)
Biggest deal-maker is, surprisingly, the working directory. I was doing a little one-off task, so it was nice to not have to make and open an RProj to be in "home base”.
Question mark for now: the pop-up help. Sometimes super useful, sometimes got int he way of my eyeballs.
