Now I better understand. Don't open an issue, that's the intended behavior. When replying, the focus stays on the answer itself, not on the options. Replies default to unlisted which covers most cases. Options remain accessible with a small scroll for anyone who wants to change them.

Yes, you're right. Fedilab can query the public API of remote instances to fetch full conversations or profiles directly from the source. Especially useful for small instances with limited federation. On interaction, the search API (WebFinger) brings the post into the local instance so interactions work normally.

This is a separate issue I'm still working on. Disabling some opt-in options should actually prevent it: try turning off "fetch home in background" or the cache for Home. That said, a proper fix remains a priority, alongside the UI rewrite which will have its own dedicated branch.

The current fix and enhancement process won't be disrupted. The rewrite would happen on a dedicated branch, with separate builds for testers. It will take time but the goal will be to have a feature-rich app with a nice UI (the main complaint from new users).

I got some feedback that I'll apply. Instead of having the bot create a new DM for every guess, you'll be able to ask it to update its original DM. This will be saved as a setting. That will be done through a command such as "mode update", or "mode create" to revert.
The bot already supports commands like "delete my data". English always works, and translated commands are also supported.

Fedilab is 9 years old. Never would have expected this longevity when Mastalab started back in 2017.
What kept me going is the Fediverse itself. No judgment, room to make mistakes, genuine tolerance. This network carries values that help people move forward, and I met great folks along the way.
Thanks to everyone who used the app, reported bugs, translated strings, or simply said hi over the years.

You can DM the bot with "help" to get the rules and available commands. Other commands include "stats" for your personal stats, "top" for the instance leaderboard, and "delete my data" to remove all your information.

I think there is a missing step because opting into the bridge means consenting to be federated, not to be indexed. These are two different things. Once bridged, indexable is hardcoded to true and the user has no way to change it.

BridgyFed sets indexable to "true" for all bridged Bluesky accounts. AT Protocol has no equivalent setting, so users cannot opt out. Holos Discover relies on this flag to determine consent, so bridged accounts are excluded to respect the indexable opt-out flag.

While some of my projects support both Android and iOS, I have no plans to rewrite #Fedilab for iOS. Maintaining all its features across both platforms would be impractical. The app will be modernized with a better UI but will remain a dedicated Android app.

To people using the fetch home timeline in background, you might encounter gaps in your home timeline. The app fetches new messages from the most recent until your current position. Depending on the device, #Fedilab has a short window and might fail, creating a gap in your cache. This will be fixed by paginating from your last known message. If it fails, no gap is created and the next fetch will pick up the missing messages. First fix in 3.38.1.

The real game will be between instances.
End of day: instances ranked by average score, not by number of players. A small instance with skilled players will be able to top the leaderboard.
Minimum 5 players per instance to qualify. Weekly leaderboard posted every Sunday.
Words will come from player suggestions. The suggester won't know when their word is picked.

Anti-cheat: the bot will track stats over a rolling window. Suspicious patterns (too many first-try solves, impossibly low averages) will be flagged automatically.
Flagged players can still play but will be excluded from instance rankings. No automated bans. Admin reviews manually.
Fair play for everyone.

A bot posts a word to guess. You reply privately. Only real dictionary words accepted. End of day: instances ranked by average score, not size. A tiny instance can top the leaderboard.

Good idea. A confirmation via DM when the indexable flag is off would work well. One challenge is the language: the confirmation message needs to be understandable, otherwise it could confuse users who do not read English.

Holos Discover already supports explicit opt-in via mention commands. Currently the indexable flag is still required, but since a direct mention is an explicit choice made by the user, it would make sense to allow it even when the indexable is off. That way someone could opt in to a consent-based Fediverse search engine while staying off traditional ones. I will look into it.

#HolosDiscover will use the "web+ap" scheme to let #Fediverse apps open posts natively. If no app handles it, the link falls back to the browser. #Fedilab already supports this scheme. Any app developer can add support for it too.

If you sent me a DM and I never replied, I probably never received it. Mastodon 4.3 introduced a notification policy that drops private mentions from accounts you don't follow by default. #Fedilab does not yet support this API, so there was no way to see or change this setting from the app. I am working on adding support for this feature. #HolosDiscover now uses #IFTAS denylists for moderation. A script automatically imports both the DNI (Do Not Interact) and AUD (Abandoned & Unmanaged Domains) lists to block dangerous or unmaintained instances from indexing. I am in contact with IFTAS and will continue improving moderation.

Since the relay caches everything for every user (thanks to bloom filters, it knows what to delete even if it never needed to be delivered), a single public activity gets duplicated for every account on the relay. A note about this week's work. I spent a lot of time fixing the Holos relay server after a mistake during the database migration in the script that cleans outdated pending activities. Nothing was being deleted, disk usage kept growing, and I could not even run a full vacuum. I had to fix it manually. To be honest, that cleanup script was just a workaround for a deeper issue with the shared inbox. (1/2)

This version improves device discovery by listening for network announcements from TVs that were previously missed. It also warns when a video format may not be supported by the target device.

I'm discovering the iOS dev environment and I realized I shouldn't have used internal TestFlight. It requires giving beta testers a role in the project, which grants them some access to App Store Connect. My bad, I assumed it worked like Android.

#UntrackMe relied on Android's intent system to intercept links. Recent Android versions broke this approach, so the concept has been rethought: the app will now act as a transparent browser set as default for all links. All URLs are silently cleaned from tracking parameters. When a privacy frontend is available, the link is redirected to your preferred one. If a redirect is detected, it is blocked until validated, and the destination is opened directly, bypassing the redirect.

The rework on #UntrackMe is almost over. When set as default, it will act as a proxy and strip any tracking parameters before delegating the action to another app.
If it detects a supported front end (for YouTube, X links etc.), it will automatically redirect you to the alternative front-end of your choice.
If it detects a shortened or hidden URL (like t.co, etc.), you will be warned with full details before proceeding.

Yes to both! Moving from Mastodon to Holos (and back) is supported in both directions.
Multiple users on the same root domain is also possible, but a static JSON file won't be enough. You'll need a server that reads the WebFinger resource parameter and returns the right JSON for each user.
We will create a dedicated step-by-step guide for each situation.

With #Holos, you can have your identity on your own domain. No server? A simple CNAME record is enough. Already have a server? Point a subdomain to handle #ActivityPub traffic and serve a static JSON file on your root domain.
This is a step toward the same sovereignty #Nostr offers with cryptographic identities, but staying in the #ActivityPub ecosystem you already know.

While I took all possible actions to make the translate server as stable as possible, it still suffers from outages. But now, a service listening to its state automatically restarts it when it goes down.
It should never be down for hours (when I was off), except for a few minutes of outages now.

The next step with #HolosSocial will be to let you use your root domain as your identity while still using a subdomain for the relay.
Yes, #Holos is kind of like #nostr but with #ActivityPub. The main difference: your data lives on your device, not on a server, and relays remain completely dumb.

The translation service is being abused by some spam IPs. I have added Fail2Ban to protect the service from shutting down. If you encounter any issues while the service is still up, I will fix the rules.
