Okay, listen. The NYT is going to continue to suck. It's going to continue to normalize fascism. It's going to continue to push absolute bullshit, and it's going to continue to publish opinion pieces by monsters who are operating in bad faith.
Acting shocked that they do this is boring. It also helps normalize the idea of the NYT as a place for unbiased, reasonable takes. The NYT is very much not that.

Back in the early 2000s, I was a baby debian developer hacking on php code for a small startup and fighting with php bugs. I ended up co-maintaining the php4 package with infinity (Adam) & vorlon (Steve). We bonded over how hilariously awful upstream was. I hung out with both of them at multiple conferences, but especially Steve.
Adam died in 2021. Steve a few days ago. RIP to both of you, when I think of debian I think of you.

Wow, machines won't allow you to add value to a #MetroCard, and if you replace an expired card the new expiration date on all of them is Jan 31st 2025 ( < 3 months from now). So I guess they're _finally_ phasing them out.
Sucks to be you if you were trying to get onto the subway with cash*, though! No way to refill or get an OMNY card at my local station. You're just shit out of luck, and the police will violently arrest you if you attempt to jump the turnstile. Get a car, loser!

I'm not going to tell the mastodon devs how to do their jobs, but the amount of resources they're putting into developing clients *that aren't very good* is kind of staggering. There are plenty of Free (/open source) third-party clients that they could be recommending, but instead are letting threads and bluesky lap them in features..
