Context specific, I’d imagine.
In a post where all the snippets are of the same language and it’s clear from the body text, I say it’s less useful.
Explaining a common concept in multiple languages or if it’s a single snippet in a largely prose post, yes.
PS I like the style of your annotation there as it’s clear to me what it’s for and what it means.

I’m teaching myself FPGAs by implementing Simplified-DES at the moment, so I’d love to see anything like that!
