It's also not sustainable given the sad state of where resource and focus go in this day and age of number goes up, ignoring consent, and clout hounding.
I'm proud to have shown a tiny bit of a different path and resistance.
So to everyone that had some resonance or joy or spark from RFF, contributed to the community vibes, showed up for events, discovered and supported artists, made new friends and creative connections, thank you.

It really is as simple as checking in on a friend.
Or taking that one minute to drop one kind word to a creative. That is rocket fuel. It may be the difference that helps to keep putting more art and creativity into the world.
Making spaces of consent and agency outside the corporate silos is not technically hard, but being relentlessly positive and organic and artist and community focused IS!

I'm gonna need you to try and keep the artist advocacy torch burning.
Lift each other up. Celebrate diversity. Demand tools we need as organic communities, not platforms that make us work even more unpaid jobs and harass/exhaust/silence us or extinguish out creative spark.
Push for consent and agency and collaboration. And as direct as possible support in whatever ways we can be amiable with and that artists can manage to navigate!

The fedi is also a little bit shit for artists and I have empirical data and experiential from the uncomfortable position of community conduit and seeing ALL the frustration and burnout of creatives and the infinite challenges of performative social media plus obscenely shifting platform goal posts.
And the world is even shitter so it felt important to come back for a month of comfy channel pop-up and the month long artists streaming series fest to rally the artists.

I however will not miss the 05.45 alarms to monitor the server with half an eye open in bed.

There's always bad things with most platforms. Recognise the artists prolly agree.
But also realise it is yet another unpaid, time consuming, and frankly exhausting job to constantly hop platforms and we can never all know ALL the things about every space. That keeps us from doing the creative thing we need or want to do in the first place.
Drop a kind word, materially support as directly as you can even with the "bad" processors. Help make more art happen and stay vertical out there.

While we *personally* may not like a platform, we can certainly advocate for spaces and platforms that might provide more agency/safety for artists and friends IF ASKED!
Otherwise must should do our best to meet artists where they need to be or can manage to be.
Help keep creative voices from extinguishing. Don't add to artist' exhaustion with infinite demands on their being agile to YOUR platform expectation.

RFF never judged or harassed artists for their support and other links or their dominant license. We passed them along with every track played because SUPPORT INDEPENDENT ARTISTS and facilitate consent, good communication and collaboration.

I advocate quality over number go up. Yet it's also criminal how gatekeepers and taste makers, even here, will ghost organic community, the bard class, or divert focus from acknowledging the IMMENSE and diverse talent of independent artists right here.
If you try some #RFFF25 events and don't crack a smile or tap a toe or shed one glorious tear, the Hamster will refund admission.
Which is overtly zero because artists out here rocking solidarity in venues that respect our collective agency.

Help us with one last push out there, that there was an organic way. There is a community way. We must improve artistic agency and normalise more direct support, collaboration and mutual motivation.
These cost dearly in human exhaustion against a backdrop of terrible number go up models and infinite hurdles.
Be the ONE awesome person today or this week that drops a dono to an artist, or drops them a kind note of support, or helps them promote an event.
For heck sake, lift one another up.

Oof, the extent to which performative social media VIPs and platforms will go out of their way to not engage community or support independent and marginalised artists is palpable, demoralising and sad.
Even here in the slightly alternative socials.
