Lost and Found by Liv Rancourt was a pleasant surprise. The setting is Paris the year after the end of the first war. Benjamin Holm, an American doctor, has returned to the city after spending several months in the states recuperating from his experience. His goal is to find his lifelong friend Elias who went missing after the war. After a rough start Benjamin strikes up a friendship with Louis Donadieu, another resident of the building where he's staying. As the two men spend more time together Benjamin starts to feel things for Louis that at first make him feel very uncomfortable. Around the same time we learn there are parts of his memory that are lost to Benjamin, causing him to wonder if perhaps his feelings for Louis are not as foreign as he believes.
Books set in this time frame have previously tended to not hold my interest, but this book has given me a new perspective on the subject.

I've been waiting several days for delivery of a book so decided to check the tracking last night. After leaving Houston and arriving at another spot in Texas on Wednesday it arrived at a USPS facility in York, Pa. yesterday morning. I figured great, just a short trip down the Pennsy Turnpike and it will be here in no time. As of this morning the package is on its way to Austell, Ga.😱

Sheesh. I just got out of the dentist's office and feel more like I spent my time at a used car dealer. The dentist said I have a couple old fillings that are cracked and will require a crown to repair them. Then he takes me to the front desk and up pops the closer with her handy tablet laying out multiple financing options. 12,18,24,36 months. All we need is your debit card to get you started. Every time I asked a question her response ended with all I need is a debit card to get you started. Finally I said oh drat I seem to have left my debit card at home. Maybe the fact that I've seen four different dental hygienists and an equal number of dentists in two years going to this place should have been a tip-off? Neither tooth is bothering me so hopefully I survive 6 months until I'm covered for another visit and find a new practice.

This is the days of online chat rooms, which figure prominently in the story. While online one night Ralph gets hit on by O'Connor, and eventually decides to meet him in Washington where Bill works. Ralph likes everything about Bill until Bill reveals himself to be a closeted conservative. At first Ralph manages to convince himself he can overlook this until something occurs that he considers a total betrayal. Despite Bill's efforts to convince Ralph they can get past this, Ralph decides to totally cut him off. But Bill's continued efforts to make amends pale in comparison to what comes next.

In the continuing saga of the washing machine, the order was placed a couple weeks ago and delivery was scheduled for tomorrow. I was supposed to get a call today with a delivery window, but of course there was no call. I called to find out what's going on, and it turns out this particular model is still on back order.(of course my credit card was charged at the moment the order was placed) Now we wait for a call to see what happens next. Pardon me but I feel my inner Karen starting to surface.

Is anyone knowledgeable about chickpeas? I don't have the patience to prepare them from scratch so I stick with the canned variety, although I do avoid the ones with additives. Just curious why some are nice and plump out of the can while others come out pea sized. Are there different varieties of chickpeas or are they the same beans just prepared differently?

I don't know if this is a reflection on the sad state of our educational system or an indication that the world has passed me by. The weekend DJ on the radio station I was listening to earlier gave the time, then mentioned that he taught high school during the week and observed that none of his students can tell the time from an analog clock.(Maybe the fact that I'm still listening to terrestrial radio is a clue to the answer.🤔)

I decided to beat the tariffs and start shopping for a new washing machine before prices double. Our current washer is like a tank. It's at least 20 years old though, and starting to run on fumes. Everything out there seems to require at least a 27 inch door clearance so I measured the door it would come in through just to be sure. If you guessed that the door frame measures 26 and a half inches you win a prize.😱

She arrives at David's apartment, assesses the situation, and before we know it a Weekend at Bernie's scenario plays out. She soon has David convinced that this is the perfect subject for his comeback novel, but other forces may have other ideas.
This one kept my attention from beginning to end, and had me laughing out loud on multiple occasions. Not a dull moment in the entire book.

The park near where I live has two nicely maintained baseball fields. For the last several years there have been teams that are part of an organized league(full uniforms and the like)playing there every Sunday from May thru around Labor Day. This year there were games being played there thru around Memorial Day, but all of a sudden the park has been empty for the last month or more. Oh, did I mention the teams were made up entirely of Latino players? Purely a coincidence right? Right?

One of the things that frustrates me is that many rural voters who continue to vote red have benefited from the ACA(unless of course their governors blocked it). Who do they think is responsible for providing access to that? Even republicans derisively refer to it as Obamacare so there’s no mystery to it, and yet they vote for people who campaign on taking it away.

On this final day of Pride Month I'd like to first thank @npub10qy…yys4 for allowing me to share the #QueerBooksforPride space all month. My final entry is the book I'm currently reading. How Long Has This Been Going On by Ethan Mordden was first published in 1995, and chronicles gay life from 1949 forward thru an ensemble cast of characters that shows as much as we have in common we're all unique. I'm only about 20% of the way in, but it's quickly becoming one of my favorite reads of the year.

The Gardener by Charles Reeza is the story of Adam Evans, an introvert who divides his time between work and tending his garden. When the tenant for his over the garage apartment gives notice, he doesn't relish the prospect of having to find someone to take over the lease. And he definitely doesn't relish the prospect of that someone being Sam Engel, but things sometimes have a way of happening whether we want them to or not.
