Ottawa City Hall is so fucking broken:
Can't report a streetlight that's out because the web form to report it is also broken. (Also, do I submit it as a "damaged streetlight" or a "malfunctioning streetlight"?!?)
Can't call 3-1-1 because they have "elevated call volumes" 24/7.
If I send an email I might get a response, a few days later, asking me for more information or guilt-tripping me for not using the broken form.

back in the days when they would send un-unsubscribable "so-and-so wants to connect with you on LinkedIn" messages, I somehow managed to get them to stop sending me emails. More recently when I tried creating an account I was blessed to never got the confirmation emails. I didn't try very hard.

I missed this clip when it came out but I have no objection to the changes as described here. E-bikes in Ontario that look like bikes are considered bikes and treated as they are now, but heavier or faster ones, especially those without pedals, will need licensing and insurance.
Perhaps the e-motorcycle store owners opposing this could explain why electric mopeds are any safer than gas powered ones, which already require licensing?

Whenever you hear a politician or police official vilify people who communicate "using encrypted messaging apps", replace it with "in the privacy of their bedroom".
People in power feel entitled to be able to supervise your behaviour, wherever you are, and in whatever form it takes. The concept of privacy offends them.

Shopify wants me to change the CNAME records on my domain so they can continue to send my store's email notifications from my domain.
Only they didn't bother to tell me before making this change and I only found out because my admin notifications for new orders stopped filtering out of my inbox.
I find this out on a Friday at 3:30pm, and I will have to retry authenticating my domain multiple times over the weekend once the DNS updates have hopefully propagated.

I don't see anything in the alt text that describes a difference in how the images were produced, just in how they appear.
The alt text suggests they were both taken by space-based telescopes. Was only the left one taken by a space-based telescope, and the right one by a ground-based telescope?

Ugh, terrible.
While the difference in result is obvious, can you elaborate on what conditions the left photo was taken under compared to the right one? Shorter exposure with different telescope? Taken in the past? or just a cleanup of the right photo? Thanks

without having read the article, I can see fully in person being preferable to hybrid because it means the employer no longer has any responsibility to finance the employee's home office setup AND office office setup.
Still short sighted and I prefer fully remote to both.
I'm lucky where I am (not in government) that I only have to go into the office when absolutely necessary, which ends up being only a couple times per year, usually for full-day meetings in conference rooms.

is there a theme/setting where I can see the Writer page in white when my Win11 system is in Dark Mode? It's really hard to lay out items for printing when the page background is black! So much so I actually toggle my entire system to Light Mode whenever I need to use LO Writer. So far I've only found an unreliable setting that does it only for the current file.

So... if you delete a #Dropbox Business user account that had Dropbox Backup enabled, it doesn't just delete the #backup copy of their user folders, but IT DELETES THE ORIGINALS TOO! The Mac profile becomes unusable and a factory reset is needed.
That is the exact OPPOSITE of what a "backup" service is should do!!!
Thankfully I learned this in a situation where the former employee migrated their data manually before they left (their account was deleted by another #admin )

Dang. First time a package delivery was stolen from our front porch, uesterday afternoon. If only the Purolator delivery person had rung the doorbell!
edit: turns out the doorbell battery was dead. I was sick yesterday and didn't see the corresponding delivery notification email until later.

very often I see posts with many more boost than favourites, the opposite of what I would expect, because I use these the same as you do!
Sometimes it says I'm the first to star something despite many boosts, which makes me wonder if Mastodon just isn't good at displaying favourite counts.
