Like, I see stopgaps as things that can be built quickly. So I don't see how a nuke is a stopgap when literally the foundations of what will be possible will have completely changed by the time a nuke will get built. That's not a stopgap.

That's historical though. I mean, what year did this happen? What was the LCOE of solar and wind at that point? What is it now?
Like, black market solar in pakistan has more installed capacity than grid because it's so frickin cheap. They can't even track it anymore.
Investing in nukes now when solar and wind and storage are already cheaper and are going to continue to fall is just a weird economic choice.

My problem with nukes isn't hte saftey.
It's the expense, the time to build, and the centralization (read: targetification) of it.
It's a big, slow, expensive target. And then when russia sabotages it because no one is willing to smack them for "hybrid warfare", you'll really be up shit crick.
Edit: oh, also: nukes enrich oligarchs. You can't do "community nukes". Lol. You can't do "municipal nukes"

I mean, I think that's really a false premise. Look at the fall of cost and the rise in total generation of wind and solar and batteries in the time frame it takes to build a single nuclear plant.
And then, for your backup, there are a bunch of technologies that show more promise, can be more distributed (which is really important to prevent oligarch takeover), and even considering research timelines they'll STILL be more available than nukes.

The LCOE of nukes higher than solar and wind + battery, WAY higher than solar and and wind without battery, and you can get solar and wind built in 18 months, whereas there are literally no nuclear projects anywhere in the world, including in China, that are not shattering their schedules and budgets by 2x or more, when those schedulers are 10+ years and the budgets would've built a more than equivalent amount of solar.

I think we've talked about this before, but the thing I want everyone who is surprised by how this is going, whether they voted for Trump, or Harris, or didn't vote, doesn't matter. If a body is surprised at what's happening, I really really really need them to take a deep look at where and how they get their information, and then try to find ways to get information that are similar to people who weren't surprised.

This is why I've come to believe many many smaller protests are better than a few big ones. Like today my town of ~18k had hundreds of protestors.
If we protest everywhere:
1) People will see it for themselves, so the fucking oligarch media doesn't gotta cover it.

A marked point of which is that you can put it anywhere.
The US could all of our power from covered parking lots, and even though covered parking lots like triples the cost of the solar install, it'd STILL be cheaper than nukes AND it'd be generated where it was needed AND we could start building literally any time.

nukes don't last for a century, their maintenance costs are high and will remain high, there's already fuel sourcing issues, and you're creating centralized profits, and centralized targets if there's conflict. Which is inevitable.

I'll bet if you do the math on how much solar+storage that could've been built for the same money, given prices halfway through the project, it'd be more. I'd further bet that if you checked todays prices, it'd be a lot more. I'd further bet that if you made an estimate on future prices, it'd be hilariously more, even if you're conservative.
Plus solar+storage is infinitely better for resilience and defense. But that's a side bene to cost.
