btw i've become aware that while i do have important data stored in multiple places... in the event of a catastrophe that takes out all my electronics simultaneously (say, a house fire), i actually lose access to my offsite backup due to not having access to passwords any longer

I do like void, but I've only ever used it on my igpu laptop that runs a minimalistic low-aesthetic sway config with some custom bash scripts. Dunno how well it handles nvidia/gaming but I'll figure it out once arch/systemd finish implementing their age nonsense

I use both sway and hyprland and I'm constantly fighting both. Sway a little more but only because hyprland is on a bigger screen.
I love sway's tabbing/stacking modes but good fucking god is getting windows where you want them a fucking pain sometimes.

i don't game or do anything intensive, I just enjoy nice technology with good UI. nice camera is a big plus, big battery is also nice.
otherwise, i just don't want ads in my OS, man. everything I do (sideload apps etc) i think can be done on any android
i am not 100% against iphone considering where google's going but i'd really need to be sold on it. i'm not in that ecosystem and don't want to be. i know that it can't easily sideload adblocked youtube and doesnt support LDAC, both of which suck but aren't necessarily dealbreakers.
things im not sure iphone supports but are dealbreakers for me:
- wireguard support
- good terminal app a la termux
- good offline capable subsonic client a la Symphonium

Yes, sure, those are good sounding reasons/explanations. However, note that the same exact reasons/explanations were given for the Armenian genocide. Were all 1 million+ victims? Of course not

one 'issue' is the nvidia drivers they have are outdated
buuuut... that's not presently an issue. it was an issue when 560 and 565 came out which made nvidia actually properly usable on wayland, while void was stuck on 550
but presently im on 590 and void's on 580, and i honestly couldn't tell you the difference. i don't game enough for it to matter
other than that, moooost things seem to be present?
the bigger issue is actually going to be figuring out what all i want to keep from my current set up, how it's set up, etc.
should make this a longer term project. take time to document things so that if/when arch & systemd become totally unbearable for me, the switch to void will be easy

Yeah and it's clear whatever regulations exist aren't as strict as for people insurance, because they're all real fucking vague about what they cover
Buuuut in the last 30 days we've been to the vet 3 times
1st wasn't covered since it was b4 the trupanion trial, but it wouldn't have been covered anyway because it's preventative stuff
2nd was emergency - for whatever reason they only covered about 2/3 of it, but that 2/3 was under the deductible, leaving like $40 deductible remaining
3rd was also preventative
Now this one isn't preventative and it's not emergency, it's diagnostic. So, we'll see I guess. If trupanipn saves me more than like $200, I'll probably go for it
Otherwise it's not worth it since it's like $100+/month anyway
It's also not worth it for older pets though, man, since none of these insurances cover preexisting conditions. My 8 y/o cat had to have like 10 teeth reomved. I bet that any future dental issue would not be covered. Cat continues to be uninsured.

very cool! Now that chamich is essentially fully vaxxed (still needs Lyme and lepto but it's good enough for now) I've been looking into local puppy classes primarily for socialization reasons
Dude desperately needs it, especially because as you said - neighbor dogs are difficult.
But in terms of individual training all I've found requires me to be there as well, which I understand the reasoning for but can't easily swing on my schedule. Now that I know, I'll look specifically for that kind of thing I think

Chamich isn't getting a summer coat yet - there's still snow on the ground - but he's exploding fur in every direction so he's gotta tidy up. His eyes are covered, his paw pads are messy, and his butt is a constant poo-risk hahaha
I think my wife wants to trim more than i do but I'll fight for his right to be a little flowy
