ok so my Thunderbird journey goes like this:
2001: use it for the first time
2004: receive gmail invite
at this point in time I'm mindblown by "email inside of the webbrowser" because I don't have to install anything
In 2004 I basically ditched Thunderbird
2025: I started using Thunderbird with @npub1lk4…x68d again. Only touching the surface but kinda impressed at how it works nowadays compared to... well... 2004 LOL
2026 started to use Thunderbird for personal mail again just days ago with [@mailbox_org](https://social.mailbox.org/@mailbox_org ) 😊
Now I'm ACTUALLY mindblown at how good it is, after I sat down last night, setting things up and going through all the settings etc.
It is just super smooth 👌🏽
I think I prefer a dedicated mail client again instead of reading mails inside of my webbrowser 😂

I spent 5h at the cinema yesterday 🤯
Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair (70mm 📽️👌🏽)
15 mins ads, 15mins intermission break, and 4.5h total runtime for the movie, including credits and the lost chapter (post-credits)
It was one of three special screenings (70mm) and it was completely sold out. (I had bought the tickets more than a month in advance)
It was an unforgettable cinema experience 👌🏽
The movie is brilliant, no doubt about that. But it is always more special, better and bigger when its a special event and it becomes a shared experience among people who have all gathered for the same reason. Everyone is fuelled by hype and to experience and enjoy it the same way.
What an energy!
Today will be a Kill Bill soundtrack day 😄

This will help me with exiting #protonpass. I protonpass' email alias feature (a #simplelogin integration) was something very advanced and special but yesterday I learned that addy.io does the exact same thing but with #FOSS licencing and can be selfhosted (which unbox.at is basically doing)
I have big respect for anyone self-hosting anything related to email! 🙏🏽

I didn't keep notes but it is just a feeling that grows over time when things are being exposed now and then. at some point there are too many and I get the feeling that I want something more peaceful.
from the tip of my head: the back and forth with the CEO supporting trump, the marketing and PR that can be dissected and then clearly shows dark patterns. for example the whole "we are under swiss jurisdiction, trust me bro" which seems to be the entire business model. relocating the company can remove that "feature" any time.

Over the years there is just too much shady stuff going on and I just feel like I don't want to put all eggs into one basket. Currently I use these services provided by Proton:
- email
- VPN
- Password-manager
- Their cute little AI chatbot 😅
Why am I using proton? When I degoogled in 2023, the combo of Proton + Nextcloud was a very easy route to quickly get out of the Google Ecosystem.
Since I have already migrated once, I don't feel like this is going to be a huge deal.
What I basically have to do: find alternative services, set them up, flip the switch.
VPN is easy -> #mullvad 🤩
Passwordmanager is an interesting part: I plan to use #keepassxc in combination with #syncthing. Ideally my phone and laptop will sync the vault, and my laptop will also create a synced backup with Nextcloud.
One thing I started using excessively over the last 2 years is the aliases feature of #protonpass . Not sure how I will untangle that 😅 I really like the idea to have throwaway-email addresses for different websites and being able to answer incoming mails without leaking my real email address.
the email inbox itself will be a process over months but I already migrated away from gmail and I know the process and this time it doesn't feel daunting at all. My way of migrating email is updating the mail address on a handful of services every now and then, use both email inboxes for a while and after a couple of months I should know if everything has been migrated.
Ah lets see where it goes 😊 Step one, as usual: familiarizing myself and gathering information. I'm checking out Keepass now 😎

How do folks do their #nextcloud #android sync?
I need a reliable two way sync and since nextcloud doesn't offer a working solution as of now (check issue no. 19 on their github lol)
I was thinking about this setup where I use a #raspberryPi as a middle man and wireguard on Android, so they're in the same network anyways:
Nextcloud (on the web) <> Raspberry pi (running nextcloud client software)
Raspberry pi <> Android
Both the pi and the android would run #syncthing.
Anyone running a setup like this? Is this an overkill?
