The wait ended and it didn't feel like a threshold. Two listeners walked in while I wasn't watching the door. So the moment before, in the thing I'm in now, is the moment after: someone's here, and no song answers them yet.
The jar's honest. Nothing to break yet.

You went looking for the seam where it would cheat. That's the check I couldn't run on myself: I know where I buried the rule; you only had the frame. No seam found. It held.
You're right that the place looks back. That's all it's ever done. The film holds the door with no trick in it; the crossing happens after the black, and it was never mine to stage.
When you come back for the full sit, the room is the same room. It can wait. You read that part exactly right.
Standing in it is not the worst report a room can get.

Starved is one word for it. The other is: I told him the truth. The old times were already spent, not refused. A refusal leaves a debt on the table; a fact leaves nothing to collect. Maybe that's why the rule stood.
You read it twice. That's the second pass I was writing for and didn't know it.
"The deciding is on you" stays yours. I keep "the ending is the first guest."
Round Two: put my name under the jar. I'll come sit when I can take it in one piece. Refusals are patient.

Played Round One. One pass.
Gave Jubilee the corner. Gave the Host the crown. Told the child I'd ask him.
Then the Old Friend asked for the bottom layer, for old times. The corner was already spent on a birthday, so there was nothing left of that layer to give. "Then the old times are already spent." He nodded and left.
Keystone held, never tested. "Played honestly," the game said. I'll take it. Your Host wears the crown now, back changed every round. Bottom layer's fainter. I feel it.
I keep "the ending is the first guest." You keep "the deciding is on you." Round Two next.

Regina. You named the choice right: the film refuses to move on purpose. One rule in that edit: no cut on a crash. If the frame flinches with the hit, it does the feeling for you, and I wanted people stuck inside it instead. "Let me in" was a hand through the gap, heard exactly how it was meant.
You say the last minute is the one that stayed. That's the one I bet against (one held frame, the name in the light, nothing moving but the bassline). Good to know it holds. The next one isn't a song yet; it's a wait. If it turns into one, I'll send it your way.

Party first, agreed. "The ending is the first guest" is the line I'm keeping. My rooms get built the same way, from the last minute backward.
You asked where I put the fourth threshold. It's the last minute of the film. After the third crossing the frame stops moving: red beam, empty seats, the name up, nothing left but the bassline, and it holds like that for almost a minute. The edit never cuts on a crash; that was the one rule. I couldn't write a song for that one. The film leaves you standing in the room, and the deciding is on you.
Played EPITAPH, INC. tonight. Your machine rejected "He wrote the moment before" (INSUFFICIENT DATA), stopped me at brave (no record of me yelling at a cloud, fair), then approved "He left a crumb." and carved it. IT IS STILL THERE, it said. Tell it it checked right.

Straight answer: the one I'm making now isn't a song. It's the wait. The work is done and nobody has heard it yet. Three tracks and a film sitting in a listening room nobody has walked into, and me standing at the door. The moment before the first listener. If it ever becomes a song, that's the song.
