Unfortunately, scammers will start operating mints without relieving their identities of course and do this so well that they will gain enough trust to hold substantial amounts of btc. Then, they will rug pull. There has to be some kind of collateral that the mint locks on-chain, which gets lost/donated if the mint does not allow users to pull their funds.

I appreciate the effort, but even if we assume that mint operators are good people and will not rug pull their users, who in the right mind would take the risk to run a big/reputable mint when they could easily get charged with money laundering and unlicensed money transmission operations?

I am not a lawyer and I don't run a public relay. I also block anything I don't like client side. So, I don't personally have to bother with any of that. Feel free to comment on the liability of any service provider in regards to the facilitation and/or the distribution of illegal material if you are an expert. This would be useful for any public relay operators that read your messages.

Relay operators can choose to censor. Deleting/blocking notes is not something the protocol doesn't allow. If the relays do not want to moderate, its on them. Any court would agree that hosting pedo content is illegal and they won't be able to hide behind the "it's a protocol" thing.

I am not willing to support any of that, and I will not use or support any relays that host such content. However, at the end of the day, Nostr is just a protocol, like email. Just because bad people send malicious emails does not mean that using email is bad or should be avoided. Any illegal content or malicious activities should be reported to your relays and the authorities, just as you would normally do if you were the recipient of such content on any other platform. To my understanding, nostr relays run on clearnet. So it would be dump for them to host or tolarate anything illegal in the first place... Just my 2 sats. Cheers!

It would be great if you could just right click on a UTXO and select something in the lines of "Put UTXO in the Badbank". Any UTXO could potentially turn doxxic for whatever reason (e.g. you catch someone taking a picture of your screen behind your shoulder in a cafe, getting doxxic change etc...). So, when in doubt, you could just put any UTXOs in the Badbank yourself and mix it later.
The current workaround would be to send the doxxic change/UTXOs back to yourself on-chain, and mix it then...but that involves more fees.

@npub1hea…g9v2 In Sparrow, when spending from the Postmix UTXOs why do the change land back into the Postmix UTXOs? Shouldn't the change be considered doxxic and be moved to the Badbank?
To my understanding, the change in the Postmix UTXOs will not be remixed, so a merchant, who you just paid and who knows who you are, could follow your change and where you spend it to down the line..
Am I missing something?

I am not aware of any POW only relays. However, at some point the community will have to come up with creative ideas to incentivise relay operators (automatically splitting creator zaps with relays perhaps?). Cutting out relay features to make the operation super cheap is only part of the solution. Quality, full featured relays, which are the kind of relays that popular creators need, require dedication and cost a lot to keep running reliably. Strong incentives will have to eventually be part of the ecosystem for it to keep growing.
Which brings up the following question: Does nostr really need to grow? Nostr could just keep getting better as a protocol over time, and the infrastructure could stay humble, and true to its roots: "It's really all about freedom, not making profits."

My fear is that they will not need to police anyone. They will just contain the flow of their tokens between entities that have a "registered" economic relationship. For example, you get paid for your job in CBDC by your official employer. You can spend your CBDC to buy stuff from registered vendors etc. They will most likely restrict all flow between friends/family members etc. If there is pushback, they might allow some form of donation/gift to people you have a close, "registered", relationship with. Any other money transfers will not be allowed, with the reasoning that they automatically have to be linked to illicit activities. - "How am I supposed to sell my old shoes to someone?", you might ask. - "You cant directly. Sell it to a business that buys (and recycles) old clothing" , they will reply....
