I fall to see how this is much better than "are you old enough to be allowed to use the platform?", or just "are you legally allowed to use this product under your current circumstances?" to be future proof. Are children so stupid they cannot spoof this? How many people are born on January 1st on these questions?

They need security patches and maybe other bugfixes. Guix easily gets technical as it's a fast-moving target which breaks things quite often. I would think your user-group needs something with really LTS where they only get bugfixes and security patches. Sure, you can build this on top of Guix with your own channel, but then it must be maintained.

Not sure pushing Guix to nontech people is a nice thing to do ;)
But maybe you're thinking about the hardware + zram + linux setup? For easy use it will probably be more than enough, but many applications and sites hog resources like crazy these days.
I haven't met many people who has ever touched a profiler unfortunately.

toys.whereis.social is a very bazaar feeling too. No idea if the packages and services is general purpose or just Works For Me. At least my channel is pretty much Works For Me even though I know some of the packages are used by others.
There is guix locate, but it's only for installed packages:
$ guix locate dig
# ...
bind@9.19.24:utils /gnu/store/f3zh8vdpw3wj4p7wgq1jkni0p4ajq4xr-bind-9.19.24-utils/bin/dig

Reminds me yet again that I need to upstream several packages :/ Sure, it should be more familiar to contribute changes, but Guix (at least Guix System) itself requires more technical knowledge than other package managers and distributions. As a package manager because a lot is not packaged and non-free things is not readily available, and as a distribution because you probably need to burn your own iso and write quite some scheme.

aligns well with my experience too. Lack of resources is the key issue. I haven't exactly been helping too much myself, so I cannot tell too loudly. Getting more users will probably help, but I feel it's a bit of a chicken and the egg problem. The bar to entry can be lowered, but maybe not to the level of other distributions. The installation with nonfree drivers is enough to scare away even Arch users.

why not bump the price and show it excluding and including? "$15000 ($10000 base price + $5000 US tariffs)?" It would let people still but if they support the tariffs, and otherwise blame the US government and not you if they oppose.

Don't think I follow. In what way are generics a runtime feature? It will generate concrete instances for types.

I just learned that #fosstodon no longer requires posts to be English only! I've even considered changing instance so I can respond to posts in my native language. The rule was revoked August 24th, 2023, so I'm obviously quite late to the party here. But great "news" anyway!
